Chapter 18
Having her past actions laid bare so bluntly, Lily’s face went from pale to flushed with rage.
Consumed by pain and fury, she raised her hand to slap Maya across the face.
But before the blow could land, someone caught her wrist mid–air.
“Let go, I-” Lily’s words died as she turned to see Camden’s ice–cold stare.
“Uncle Cam.”
Camden released her hand roughly, his gaze colder than she’d ever seen it. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
“I-” Lily started to explain, but Camden cut her off coldly.
“You shouldn’t be here. Leave. Now.”
Lily stood frozen, shocked by his indifferent tone.
“Uncle Cam, we haven’t seen each other in so long. Why are you being so cold to me? Didn’t you miss me?”
“You chose to go abroad. Why would I miss you? From now on, your business has nothing to do with me. Don’t show your face around me again.”
Camden then turned to Maya. “Let’s go.”
Before Maya could respond, Lily grabbed Camden’s arm.
“Uncle Cam, how can you say that? This is Maya–the person you used to despise most. How can you be so gentle with her?”
Camden’s voice turned glacial. “Like you said, that was before. Now I see clearly–she’s the one I love most.”
“No, no, that’s not right.”
Lily shook her head frantically, refusing to accept it.
“You can’t love her! You’re supposed to love me. You can’t treat me like this, Uncle Cam.”
Camden’s dark eyes were filled with cold indifference. “I can’t treat you like this? Lily, when I was waiting for you with all my heart, you abandoned me and went abroad. Did you expect me to keep loving you like nothing happened? I only hate myself for being wrong from the beginning, for not seeing your shallow, materialistic
nature.”

Chapter 18
Maya had no interest in watching their drama unfold. She grabbed her bag and prepared to leave.
Camden moved to follow her, but an arm blocked his path.
It was James.
Seeing James, Maya’s face immediately brightened. “You came.”
James gave her a reassuring look, then turned to Camden with an icy tone. “Mr. Harrington should focus on his own problems first.”
With that, James took Maya’s hand and walked toward the café exit.
“I’m sorry I’m late,” James said once they were in the car, pulling Maya into his arms without restraint, his voice full of regret.
Maya shook her head. “You’re not late. Perfect timing, actually.”
James held her tighter. “Maya, let’s get engaged.”
“Engaged?” Maya was stunned–she hadn’t expected James to bring up engagement.
“Yes, let’s get engaged. I know you’ve moved on from Camden completely, but seeing him constantly bothering you…
I can’t control my emotions. I’m afraid he might do something to hurt you someday. Maybe if we’re engaged, he’ll finally give up.”
Maya thought about it and realized James made sense.
Her feelings for James were genuine, and his for her were too. Getting engaged felt like the natural next step.
“Okay, let’s get engaged.”
With the engagement decision made, Maya threw herself into planning the ceremony.
Though there was a lot to organize, the Mitchell family handled most of it, leaving her with little to worry about.
Despite the tight timeline, the Mitchells were well–prepared.
One day, Maya got a call from Grace–they’d arranged to go dress shopping for the engagement party.
She stood outside the museum, about to hail a taxi.
A car suddenly pulled up in front of her. Before she could see who it was, a large hand covered her mouth and nose,
A familiar voice whispered in her ear: “Don’t be scared, Maya. It’s me. I’m taking you home.”
It was Camden–the once elegant and composed man now had a wild, manic look in his eyes.

Chapter 18
Maya struggled to call for help, but her vision began to blur.
In her fading consciousness, she felt herself being lifted and shoved into a car.
When Maya woke up again, she didn’t know how much time had passed.
Her wrists were locked to the car door handle with cold handcuffs. Seeing she was awake, Camden spoke softly, his
voice gentle but terrifying.
“You’re up. Sleep a little more–we’ll be at the airport soon.”
“Camden, have you lost your mind?” Maya’s voice shook with fear. “Let me go. When James realizes I’m missing, he’ll call the police.”
At the mention of James’s name, Camden’s grip on the steering wheel tightened until his knuckles went white. “James? That bastard you’re about to get engaged to? What right does he have to you? You’re mine.”
Maya finally understood what had driven Camden to this madness–news of her engagement to James.
She tried to keep her voice steady. “Camden, we’ve been divorced for a long time. We need to move forward, okay?”
Camden became agitated. “No, not okay. I admit I made mistakes before. I misjudged people, I ignored your love. But I’ve learned from all that now. Why won’t you give me one chance? Why are you still getting engaged to that
man?”
