Over the next few weeks, Maya threw herself into work, becoming used to Camden’s frequent appearances.
But what Maya hadn’t expected was that Camden wasn’t the only unwelcome blast from the past disrupting her life.
Lily had also shown up.
Maya ran into Lily on an afternoon when she was getting coffee at the café across from the museum.
‘Make that two–same as her, iced americano.”
Maya’s head snapped up. When she saw who was standing there, her expression went ice cold.
She grabbed her coffee and turned to leave, but Lily caught her arm.
‘Long time no see, Maya.”
Maya stared at her coldly, amazed that Lily could stand there smiling so casually.
‘Want to sit and catch up?”
Maya didn’t hesitate. “We have nothing to talk about.”
Lily blinked but didn’t let go.
To get this over with quickly, Maya reluctantly agreed.
They found a table by the window.
‘What do you want?”
Maya sat across from her, forcing down her disgust.
Uncle Cam’s transferred permanently to the London office.”
Maya was somewhat surprised. She knew Camden had stayed in London, but she hadn’t realized he was planning o make it permanent.
Maya said nothing, so Lily pouted. “You know what? When I heard that news, I was so excited. I thought he’d come o London for me. I waited every day for him to find me, but then I found out he’d been chasing after you this whole ime.”
Lily laughed bitterly, “Isn’t that hilarious? He didn’t come looking for me–he came for you.”
Maya stared at Lily steadily. “What’s your point?”

“My point is, I don’t get it. You already left–why let him find you? Why not just disappear forever?”
“Where I go is my choice. As for Camden looking for me, that’s his decision. I can’t control what he thinks, but you can–after all, he loves YOU so much.”
Maya deliberately emphasized those last words.
Lily, who’d known her for years, caught the sarcasm immediately.
“Maya, just because he’s interested in you now, you think you can mock me? Don’t forget–you only met him and married him because of me.”
Maya looked at Lily with complete indifference. “Even now, you think I should be grateful?”
Lily’s voice dripped with disdain. “Shouldn’t you be? Without me, you would never have had the chance to meet Uncle Cam, let alone marry into wealth. You should thank me for letting you be Mrs. Harrington all those years.”
Maya smiled slightly, unmoved by this speech. “Really? You can call manipulation and deception ‘doing me a favor‘? Lily, you really are something. How did I never see this before? If I had, I would have stayed far away from you from the beginning.”

Lily was stunned by that comeback, realizing that Maya was no longer the gentle, accommodating person she used
to be.
This Maya was sharp and cold.
“Whatever you did, I’m telling you–Uncle Cam is mine. He’s only coming back to you because he’s mad at me. He doesn’t love you, so you’d better stay away from him.”
Faced with this warning, Maya remained calm.
“If you’re so confident about Camden, why are you here talking to me?”
“I’m just giving you a heads up.”
“No, you’re not here to warn me. You’re here to humiliate yourself,” Maya said bluntly, cutting straight to the point.
Lily’s face went ashen, her hands shaking.
“What did you say?”

Maya had had enough of holding back.
She looked at Lily with cold eyes. “Do you think falling for your own uncle, using your friend, getting what you wanted then throwing it away, and now regretting it after you’ve lost it–do you think any of that makes you look good?”
