Chapter 8
Luke felt as if all his strength had been drained away, his legs weak as he knelt before her, unable to believe the reality in front of him.
She had been so alive.
When his fingers touched her skin, the chilling coldness seeped deep into his bones and he couldn’t help but shiver.
He remembered,Zelea hated the cold.
He draped his suit over her, carefully cupping her hand in his, rubbing it to warm her.
But the warmth he breathed out onto her fingertips couldn’t warm her no matter how hard he tried.
“Zelea, you’re so cold, aren’t you? Let me take you somewhere warm, okay?”
He said, attempting to lift her,but was stopped by both the staff and the secretary.
“Mr.Gritorn,once a person is dead,they cannot come back…”
“Get away!Who says she’s dead? She’s just sleeping! You must have made a mistake.Zelea didn‘ die!How could she die?”
Tears welled up in his eyes as Luke shouted, his voice filled with desperation. He held he tightly, not allowing anyone to touch her.
“Zelea,Zelea, they say you’re dead. Open your eyes and look at me,get up and scold them, okay?”
But no matter what he said, the person in his arms remained limp, unresponsive, showing no sign of life.
The hand he was holding slipped from his grasp and fell beside the cold metal table.
Luke’s eyes instantly dulled, his entire body stiff and motionless.
The medical staff exchanged glances, then spoke hesitantly, “Mr.Gritorn, please accept ou condolences.Miss Nortam was killed in a car accident. We’ve completed the autopsy report and found multiple injuries on the surface of her body, along with a large amount of hallucinogenic substances remaining internally.”
As he finished,he handed the report to Luke. Even he couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Back then, when Zelea strangled her own son, the incident stirred a bloody storm across the capital.Everyone said the Gritorn Family was terribly unlucky to have such a daughter–in–law.
Even her prison intake examination had been conducted by this same hospital.
And now, they had detected this kind of substance again.
Luke gripped the report like it weighed a thousand pounds. With each page he turned, his brows furrowed deeper.
He hadn’t expected that Zelea had endured so much pain over the past six years–much less that she had borne it all in silence.
No wonder she avoided him,no wonder she looked at him with such guarded, wary eyes.
But when he saw the words “hallucinogenic drugs, “his flipping stopped.
3:10 pm GON
“What is this stuff?“he asked.
The doctor nervously swallowed hard, carefully choosing his words.
“This drug can cause temporary dizziness and also impairs a person’s mental state. If someone nearby guides or manipulates them,it could very likely lead to violent behavior. The chemical composition of this drug is identical to what was found in her system during the prison intake examination six years ago.”
Six years ago?
Luke suddenly stood up,grabbed the doctor by the collar and roared with a twisted expression, “She had traces of the drug in her system six years ago. Why didn’t you say anything?” The doctor hadn’t expected such an outburst and nearly collapsed in fright, his legs going weak.“Mr.Gritorn,I did report it!It was your secretary who told us not to bother you with such a minor matter!”
Luke froze,his hand slowly loosening.
Was it Sovia?Did she know about this?
His dark eyes flickered as he glanced at Sandy beside him and instructed him to investigate thoroughly.
Ever since Zelea had been imprisoned,Sovia had gradually risen in rank and Zelea’s responsibilities had been reassigned to others.
If Sovia had intentionally hidden this, then she definitely couldn’t be absolved of involvement.
