Chapter 29
Luke staggered forward, ignoring the scornful gazes from the crowd and stood before her. With trembling hands,he reverently held out a family photo.
He had gone to great lengths to retrieve the data from his damaged camera, restoring the image.
To him,it was more precious than gold.
“Do you remember? When we took this photo, you said you wanted to freeze that moment of happiness so that you could stay by my side forever.”
He spoke in a rush, his voice strained and trembling.“Have you forgotten the promise you made to me?I faked my death and came all this way…just to try and start over with you…”
Before Luke could finish speaking,Zelea interrupted him coldly.
Her delicate, beautiful face was laced with mockery as she clutched Dion’s arm.
“Are you done? Was it me who told you to fake your death? You cheated and now you have the audacity to talk to me about forever? That’s laughable.I suggest you stop bothering me.If something happens to you in a foreign country,it has nothing to do with me.”
“Zelea…”
Unwilling to give up,Luke tried to catch up to her.
“Get lost!”
Dion stepped in front of her and landed a punch squarely on Luke’s right cheek.
He had long despised this scumbag.
Back when they weren’t officially together,he held back. But now,he didn’t have to.
He didn’t call the bodyguards. He pinned Luke to the ground, barehanded.
Luke had only just been discharged from the hospital,so he was no match for Dion. Within moments,he was beaten half to death.
His
eyes fluttered weakly and a metallic taste welled up in his throat as blood gurgled forth.
The person who once cared for him so tenderly didn’t spare him even a glance.
“Zelea…”
He no longer knew what else he could do to win her back. He had done everything he could.
“I told you, even if you died right in front of me,I wouldn’t feel a thing. Luke, give up already.”
Her face was as cold as ice and she casually smoothed out the hem of her wedding gown.
Every step she took landed squarely on the fragile remains of his heart.
Then, she turned and left without hesitation.
Like a dead dog,Luke was dragged away and dumped into the trunk of a car, then thrown into a forest over ten kilometers away.
A tree branch pierced through his calf, sharp leaves slashing open his knees and hands, but he felt nothing.
There was only one thought in his mind:He had to make it back to her wedding before sunrise.
He walked through the night.

As dawn broke and the pale dew clung to Luke’s fingertips, his hands curled tightly on instinct, his throat parched and aching with unsaid words.
The woman he had once loved the most stood amidst flowers and balloons, surrounded by the blessings of friends and family.
He hadn’t seen that sweet smile on her lips in so long.
Ever since she was released from prison, she had always kept her head down, eyes filled with
unshed tears.
Seeing her so radiant now,he was momentarily dazed.
His tightly clenched fist slowly loosened.
Suddenly,he no longer wanted to ask her anything.
Beside Dion,Zelea was happy.
His pale fingertips clutched the family photo as he slowly made his way to the cliff’s edge, gazing at the couple holding their wedding ceremony in the distance.
The moment the bell rang, they embraced each other, kissing in front of everyone.
The love in her eyes was so intense. It was impossible for him to deceive himself.
‘Zelea,I’m sorry.I was wrong about you.”

The sea waves crashed against the cliff, the rolling white foam seemed ready to strike at his feet.Luke bent down, the family photo crushed under a stone and without hesitation,he leaped of the edge.
He chose to leave this memory for her.
On the stage,Zelea’s face changed drastically. Her body gradually stiffened and instinctively, she reached out a hand as if to stop him.
‘Zelea, what’s wrong? Did you see something?”
Her lips pressed tightly together in a straight line. After a long pause, she finally regained her
senses.
It must have been a mistake.
How could he possibly jump off the cliff?
“It’s nothing.Just someone unimportant,” she replied, her voice strained.
The wedding continued and the two newlyweds exited together under everyone’s blessings.
The flower petals and the family photo were swept into the air by the wind, spinning and twirling before finally falling to the bottom of the cliff where Luke had been.
The blood stained the photo, blurring the three faces.
This time, they truly would never meet again in this lifetime.
