Chapter 24
The white man gestured and enthusiastically invited him to come into the room.
But Luke stood frozen in place, his whole body feeling as if it had been struck by a blow, unable to
move.
Zelea had moved away just like that. Was she avoiding him?Not even giving him the chance to see her from afar?
Luke was in a daze, unsure of where to go,his face filled with confusion as he scrolled through his phone.
In this country,he only knew her. He only wanted to see her again,to clarify things.
He had been waiting outside Zelea’s office for a long time, until she finally emerged, exhaustec from working late.
As the black car pulled up beside the building,Zelea suddenly felt a cold jolt at her waist–a gun pressed firmly against her back.
The car doors locked from the inside with a click, trapping her.
Staring at the man before her in terror, she pleaded, “What do you want from me?I already refunded the money! Please….just let me go,okay?”
Her voice trembled, trying to reach whatever reason he had left.
But Luke had lost all sense of sanity–he wasn’t hearing a word she said.
A sharp screech of brakes echoed as the car stopped in front of the newly rented apartment.
It was a suburb, with no neighbors in sight.
She was dragged into his arms, resisting as she turned her face away.
A tear fell, landing on his heart.
“I’m sorry,it’s my fault. I just wanted to apologize…I didn’t mean to hurt you…“Luke fumbled,trying
to wipe away the tears on her cheek, hugging her tightly with pain in his heart.
He buried his face in her hair, inhaling the scent of her.
It was unclear how much time passed before he finally released her.
“I told you,I won’t let anyone hurt you,not even myself.”
The determination and resolution in his eyes sent a chill down her spine.
She watched helplessly as a sharp blade cut into his palm, carving out a piece of flesh.
Sixty strokes in total.
“Zelea, are you satisfied now? Are you no longer angry?”
She stared at him coldly, a sense of helpless sorrow rising within her.
It had been so long and she had long regarded him as a stranger.
Even if he died in front of her,she wouldn’t feel any pain.
“I understand. You still hate me,right? Those people used knives to hurt you, didn’t they?”
He reverently clasped his hands together, placing the dagger in his palm.
He held it out in front of her.
