Zelea snapped her head up,looking at Luke in shock.
She still remembered the vow he made when they got married:
“If I ever cheat,may lightning strike me down,may I fall terminally ill and suffer an eternity of ruin!”
But the man who once made such solemn vows…now had a child with another woman.
The faces of Tyson and Carol lit up with joy. They immediately put down their spoon and asked excitedly,“Is it true?Our family is finally going to have an heir!As long as this child is borr safely,the position of Mrs. Gritorn will be yours!”
Luke’s thin lips pressed into a tight line,his brows slightly furrowed. He seemed lost in thought throughout dinner,only snapping back to reality once the meal was over.
Sovia,unable to contain her inner joy,walked over to him in a lacy nightgown. But surprisingly,Luke avoided her for the first time.
“You’re pregnant,it’s not convenient. You should go rest early.”
He didn’t notice the furious look in her eyes behind him. Instead, he walked straight toward Zelea’s room.
A piece of bread was thrown in front of her. When their eyes met, Luke awkwardly looked away. For some reason, he felt like he owed Zelea an explanation.
“I didn’t sleep with her often. There must be more to this pregnancy.”
Zelea gave a faint smile but didn’t respond.It was a matter between a man and a woman.If he truly hadn’t wanted to,how could Sovia possibly be pregnant?
Her silence only fueled Luke’s rage.
He asked coldly,“And what about you? Don’t you have anything to say to me? Why did you strangle Jose?”
Zelea froze,a dull pain stabbing through her chest.Jose was the child she had carried for nine months. During childbirth,she had nearly died from massive bleeding. How could she possibly have strangled him?
“Still the same excuse?Seems like you haven’t learned a thing in these six years!”
Luke kicked over the footstool,fury blazing in his eyes. “Do you really think I wouldn’t dare dc anything to you?”
He suddenly yanked open her camisole,revealing jagged scars that had already scabbed over,winding down from her collarbone.
He froze.Hadn’t he arranged for the prison guards to take good care of her? How had she ended up with such severe injuries?
Zelea hastily covered the scars,panic flashing in her eyes. All her shame and broken pride were now laid bare before the man she had once loved the most.
He was the one responsible and now he had the audacity to look shocked.Who was he trying to fool?
