But in the end, we did see Logan again, by accident.
It was two years later. On a spring weekend, Damian and I were shopping at a department store. I bent down to look at something, and my hair got caught on a display hook. I was holding Leo, so Damian stood beside me, carefully untangling the strands.
When I looked up, I saw him. Standing on the other side of the aisle, watching me. I don’t know how long he
had been there.
It was Logan. He was still dressed in an impeccable, expensive suit. He seemed to be doing well.
But he was staring at me with a blank, hollow look. A look of longing, of regret.
Damian’s eyes narrowed. He was not happy.
I freed a hand and took his, murmuring, “Let’s go look over there.”
He took Leo from my arms and then took my hand. “Let’s go,” he said.
I didn’t look back.
I don’t know what Logan truly felt for me. The mask of perfection he wore was too old, too solid. I couldn’t
see his true feelings, and I had no desire to.
We stopped in front of another display.
I suddenly spoke, asking the man beside me, “I never asked you.”

Damian looked at me. “What?”
“The System completely changed my face. Are you… okay with it? Do you miss the old one?”
Damian just looked at me strangely, “I didn’t fall in love with your face, Rhea.”
He leaned down and touched his forehead to mine.
“I love you because you’re you. It doesn’t matter what you look like. I will always love you.”
A soft smile spread across my lips.
Beside us, Leo saw us touching foreheads and eagerly piped up, “Mommy, I want to do that, too!”
laughed and pressed my forehead to his. “Of course, sweetie.”
