There was another Alpha heir who had been missing for many years in Rosenoir Pack. Not many people in the circle knew about it.
Suddenly, Erevan had no time for anything else.
His tone was rushed and panicked. “Tell me where is he?!”
“He’s in Mooncrest.”
Erevan froze on the spot.
Mooncrest. Why is Mooncrest again?
Ten hours later, Erevan found himself once again standing at The Hollow of Honor.
When he saw the photo and name on the gravestone, his face turned as pale as a ghost.
All these years without any news, Erevan had braced himself for the worst, but when he actually saw it with his own eyes, he
couldn’t help but feel his eyes sting with tears.
Footsteps approached from behind, and he thought it was the Beta or someone else.
He hoarsely shouted, “Everyone get away!”
But the footsteps kept coming closer. He irritably turned around, and when he saw me, he froze.
“Liora?”
He noticed the cornflower I was holding, and his mind went blank for a second.
He suddenly remembered that the gravestone I kissed that night was his brother’s.
I didn’t answer, but walked past him and placed the flowers on the gravestone, gently brushing my hand over the word
“Elian.”
“You know everything now.”
Erevan’s lips trembled, and his eyes were bloodshot. He grabbed my shoulders, forcing me to look up at him.
“What does this mean, Liora? Explain yourself!”
I handed him the locked diary.
My expression was tinged with melancholy.
“Erevan, you’re his brother. Maybe you can figure out the password.”
Erevan stared at me, silent, as he trembled and took the diary from my hands.
The diary was old, and the lock was rusty, easy to open with force.
But I had always hesitated to destroy it.
I tried Elian’s birthday, even my own, Erevan’s, but it was all wrong.
Erevan lowered his eyes, paused, then tried entering a date.

The lock clicked open.
“It’s the day he left Rosenoir Pack,” Erevan muttered.
He lowered his head, flipping through the pages of the diary. It recorded everything that had happened after his brother left
Rosenoir Pack.
The first half mostly described daily training with the werewolf army.
Before every mission, he would write down his final words, full of longing and reluctance for his little brother.
Later, the diary began to mention another name more frequently.
“November 10, I found a girl. Her name is Liora. She was homeless, so I took her in.”
“December 31, I took little Liora to watch fireworks. She was so happy, and her silly face reminded me of Erevan. Maybe one day I’ll introduce them.”
“March 14, I got injured on a mission. Little Liora cried like I was dying. I’ll have to keep things hidden from her afterwards.”
The final page contained only two sentences.
“Liora has grown up. The day her wolf awakens, my wolf falls in love with her at the first sight.”
“I think I’ve fallen for her. How lucky. My destined mate happens to be the one I like.”
Finally, Erevan raised his head to look at me.
His gaze was too complicated. His hand gripping the diary was trembling, veins popping, his teeth clenched, clearly on the verge of breaking down.
At this moment, he finally understood.
I could have feelings too but they were never for him.
“Liora, so you came to me, sacrificed so much for me was because of Elian, right?”
His voice was hoarse, almost terrifying.
I nodded quietly.
“He took care of you for four years, so you spent eight years by my side to repay that kindness. Liora, I really admire your perseverance.”
Erevan laughed bitterly.
“Elian was that important to you?”
“Yes, he was.”

My admission felt like a deep cut across his chest.
No wonder sometimes, it felt like he could never reach me, no matter how close I was.
No wonder all these years, no matter how he deceived me, played with me, or used me, it never mattered.
He had even asked me.
“Liora, are you a masochist? Doesn’t it hurt?”

Thrown into a pool nearly drowning, tricked into delivering food to the mountain top during a blizzard, abandoned in a rouge’s den for seven days with no care.
I did feel the pain.
But my answer was always the same–As long as you are safe and happy.
Because that was Elian’s wish.
That was the reason I continued to live.
Elian’s family was my family.
It took me two years to adjust my mindset. With that university application in hand, I came to Blackvale.
To stand in for Elian and protect his only brother.
Erevan’s eyes were bloodshot.
His pride would never allow him to shed tears in front of a woman. Nor would he allow himself to be nothing more than a
substitute.
“I want to know, Liora, did you ever care about me?”
