The old madam stood up to check on him when suddenly her chest tightened and she began gasping violently before blackness fell before her eyes.
She put her hand over her chest and staggered a few steps before collapsing to the floor.

The servants finally panicked,screams rising in waves.Alicia stood there with a pale face.She silently cowered in the corner with her baby in her arms.

jolted awake from the nightmare and my body shook hard,as if I had just crawled out of an ice
cave.I soaked and chilled to the bone.
When I opened my eyes,the night was dark and the curtains were slightly puffed up by the wind,like some sort of ghostly shadow.

instinctively turned my head and saw a familiar figure sitting by the bed. It was Collins.
He was wearing a loose gray loungewear set. The light was off and only a sliver of pale moonlight from outside fell across his shoulder,soft and blurry.
‘What’s wrong?“He leaned in slightly,a hint of worry in his voice.“Are you feeling unwell?”
looked at him,the fear from the dream still lingering in my chest. My voice came out hoarse,”No… It’s just a nightmare.”
Right after I said that,a lump blocked my throat,my eyes stung and suddenly I wanted to cry.
The emotion came so fast,like my chest being torn open silently and all the hurt that had been buried for a very long time started to trickle out.
Collins immediately got up and turned on the bedside lamp. The soft light dispelled the darkness. and I could finally see his expression clearly.
He knelt beside the bed,brows slightly furrowed,gazing at me with a seriousness and concern I had never seen in his eyes before.
‘It’s okay now. The light’s on.See,it’s me,“he said it calmly and firmly.just like my mother used to say when she was alive. Whenever I had nightmares,she’d pat my back and say, “Don’t be afraid,Mommy’s here.”
I stared at Collins and my nose burned even more. How could this man…be so gentle?
