Chapter 3

Author: Grogan
Toby moving out actually made things easier for me. I packed my bags and prepared everything I needed before I left.

He was busy taking care of Tammy every day. Occasionally, he would remember I existed and text to ask how I was doing.

Still, when he noticed how cold I had become, even those messages became few and far between.

It was not until a week before my departure, on my way home from the hospital, that I ran into Toby’s sister, Amy.

The moment I saw her, I instinctively hid the medical report in my hand.

However, Amy was not paying attention to that—Her eyes were locked on my slightly rounded belly. Her voice shot up in shock as she shrieked, “Stacy! How dare you?! You actually cheated on my brother and got pregnant with another wolf’s pup?!”

I frowned. My voice was calm and cold, “This is Toby’s child.”

Yet, she let out a cold sneer and stared at me.

“Don’t try to lie your way out! I saw it, and you still want to deny it? My brother’s been so kind to you, and it turns out you are just some dirty slut pretending to be all innocent!

“What, are you trying to use this child to blackmail our family with your mystery boyfriend?”

I knew Toby’s family always looked down on me, a parentless orphaned she-wolf they thought unworthy of him.

I also knew Amy never liked me, but I never imagined she would go this far to publicly humiliate and smear me.

Her high-pitched voice drew attention, and soon, wolves began gathering around.

They were whispering, speculating, and getting more outrageous by the second.

“She cheated and betrayed the sacred loyalty of our kind! She got pregnant without even forming a mate bond. She is a disgrace to the whole pack!”

“Someone tell the Elders. She should be exiled!”

I bit my lip so hard it turned white. I tried pushing through the crowd several times, but Amy blocked my way each time.

“Where do you think you are going? You are not leaving until you tell us who the father of that illegitimate child is!”

I was doing everything I could to suppress the growling fury building inside me. Still, I managed to force out through gritted teeth,

“I didn’t betray Toby. This pup is his!”

Amy rolled her eyes and laughed mockingly,

“Oh please, Stacy! You’re shameless! Tammy is the one carrying Toby’s baby. Toby’s been doting on her!

“If that thing in your belly is really his, then why isn’t he here with you? Why is he letting you stand here alone, being humiliated by me?

“You are just a pathetic liar, hoping to pass off some illegitimate child like Toby’s to trap our family. Do you think we are stupid?!”

She slapped me across the face so hard I hit the ground. The shock nearly knocked my prenatal meds out of my hand.

I could not hold back the rage inside me any longer. Just as I was about to fight back, a group of pack guards tackled me to the ground.

“Oh? Still got the nerve to resist while pregnant? Sounds like someone’s got a death wish!”

Amy grabbed a handful of my hair. Her face twisted with hate.

“You said that illegitimate pup’s our family’s, right? Fine. Let’s go ask Toby what he thinks.”

They dragged me to Toby’s family villa.

Toby and Tammy were both there when I was shoved inside.

Tammy lounged lazily on the couch, looking smug like a queen basking in victory.

Toby sat beside her, spoon-feeding her favorite mushroom soup.

When the guards dragged me forward, my face bruised, my clothes torn and hanging off me in disarray, I could clearly see him freeze for a moment.

I was a complete mess. My hair was in tangles, lips pale, face swollen, belly visibly rounded, and red, swollen face.

“Toby! This bitch betrayed you and got impregnated by some other guy! If I hadn’t caught her, who knows how long she would’ve kept up this lie?!”

Amy yanked my hair so hard I was forced to look up. Instinctively, I shielded my belly as I locked eyes with Toby.

“I did not! This is Toby’s child!”

For a moment, I thought I saw something—pity, maybe even guilt—in his eyes, and it gave me the tiniest spark of hope.

“You know this pup is yours… right?”

I thought he would at least agree or acknowledge out of pity.

Still, I was wrong again.

He looked away and said in a cold voice,

“Take her to the basement. I will deal with it myself.”
