Chapter 7
Thinking about how hard life must be for Ruby as a little girl, I decided to send her a small offering.
To me, it was just a small gesture, but Ruby’s eyes suddenly turned red. She threw herself at my legs, hugging me tightly.
“Miss, why are you so good to me? When I was born, my parents hated me because of this lump and abandoned me in a garbage dump. I didn’t even make it to ten years old in the orphanage.”
She clung to me, sobbing. “If only you were my mom… Waaa…”
I hugged her back, gently patting her. “There, there. Don’t cry. You’ve got me now, okay? Be good.”
She sniffled and nodded, still clinging to me.
When it was time for me to leave, she looked heartbroken, begging me to come back earlier next time for room inspections.
In the second room, the elderly woman was already waiting at the door with Mew Mew in her
arms.
With a warm smile, she greeted me. “Ah, young lady, you’re finally here. Mew Mew’s been waiting for you all afternoon.”
Mew Mew meowed loudly, “Lies! I wasn’t waiting for this woman!”
The old woman chuckled and gave Mew Mew a light pat. “Such a little tsundere.”
Worried the cold wind might make her sick, I quickly helped the old woman inside.
Her room was as cozy as ever, filled with a faint, comforting aroma of food.
I pulled a small outfit out of my bag and said, “Mew Mew, do you want to try this on?”
I once owned a little cat myself, and this outfit was something left from its wardrobe. After cleaning it, I decided to bring it along.
Mew Mew glanced at the outfit with disdain. “It’s so ugly.”
But despite the complaint, it obediently stretched out its paws for me.
I slowly slipped the outfit onto Mew Mew and gave it a gentle pat.
“There, now you’ve got some clothes to wear.”

Mew Mew froze in place, completely still.
The old woman sighed as if remembering something painful. “Poor little thing… Mew Mew used to be just like any other cat, with beautiful fur. Then someone kidnapped him and… skinned him alive.”
My hand froze mid–pat.
Ever since I met Mew Mew, he had been completely red, without any skin. I suspected something was wrong, but I never expected the truth to be this horrifying.
“That sicko even recorded a video of it and posted it online,” the old woman continued bitterly. “His username was something like Jack–something–Log. I went to confront him, but I got so angry I had a stroke… and then I ended up here.”
A chill ran through me as I listened.
Mew Mew seemed to notice my reaction and placed one of his little paws on my hand.
“Meow, meow.”
I understood what he meant right away: “Don’t worry, Miss. The moment that psycho entered the game, I tore him to pieces. Wasn’t I amazing?”
I stroked his face and smiled. “Very amazing.”
After finishing the visit, I moved on to the third room.
Knock, knock, knock.
The door creaked open, revealing an elderly woman with a tense, worried expression.
“Well, young lady?” she asked anxiously.
I knew she was waiting for news.
So, late last night, I went to the address she gave me to find her son.
But sadly…
Without saying a word, I handed her a photograph.
It was of a young man with a clean, bright smile, but the photo was in black and white.
As if sensing what was coming, she stared at me in disbelief, the weight of overwhelming grief crushing her almost instantly,
With a heavy heart, I said, “When I arrived at the address, there was nothing left. His friends told me that on the seventh day after your passing, he took his own life in the bathtub.”
