Chapter 23
I sat on the balcony of my hotel room, enjoying the cool night air. It’s been a tiring day with all the wedding preparations, but my heart feels light. No more indecision, or fears about the past.
As I sip warm tea from my cup, the sound of the door opening makes me turn my head. Caius had just walked in, carrying something in his hand, his tablet.
He walked over and immediately sat down on the chair in front of me. His smile was as usual, calm and warm.
“Did you enjoy your day?” he asked, looking at me gently.
I
I nodded vigorously. “Pretty tiring, but fun,” I replied as I turned my face toward him.
Caius rubbed my cheek with his thumb. Then leaned back and tapped the screen of his tablet a few times.
I didn’t pay much attention until he said, “Honey, is this the kind of foolish man who would let go of that beautiful flower?”
I frowned and stared at the screen he was showing me. My eyes immediately widened.
There, I could see the footage of Damien meeting me at the mall this afternoon. From a different angle, I could see his expression filled with panic and guilt.
I looked at Caius in surprise as I asked, “Where did you get that?”
Caius gave a small chuckle. “I had many ways to make sure you were safe. One of my men recorded it,” he replied looking at me.
I fell silent. So, Caius already knew about my meeting with Damien?
Caius looked at me sharply, but there was no anger on his face, though I didn’t know what he was thinking.
“I will not interfere in your decision, Althea. If you want to talk to him, that’s your right. But, I won’t let anyone hurt you again.”
His tone was so cold, unlike Caius who was usually gentle and relaxed.
I bit my lip. Caius wasn’t judging me. He wasn’t accusing me of things like Damien had.
I looked at him deeply. “You’re watching me?” I asked probingly.
Caius nodded slowly. “Not because I don’t trust you, but because I know that man. I know what someone who can’t accept reality can do.”
I swallowed. Caius wasn’t angry. There was no look of disdain or suspicion on his face.
He just wanted to protect me.
I let out a long sigh. “I’ll never go back to him, baby.”
Caius smiled slightly. “Who would let you go? Me? Of course not. If you choose him, then I’ll kill him,” he said threateningly, but with a laugh.
“I don’t even want to see your hands dirty, just because of a guy like Damien. It’s too

“Are you worried about me?” he asked seductively and almost kissed my lips. I quickly restrained him with my hand.
“Is there a wife who doesn’t worry about her husband?” I asked back.
Caius put his tablet on the table and leaned towards me. “You have nothing to fear or feel burdened by, Althea. I will always stand by your side. But, I want you to know one thing.”
I stared at him, waiting for his response.
Caius reached out his hand, touching my chin gently. “If that man thinks he can make you hesitate and go back to him, he’s a complete fool.”
I smiled a little. “I know that. Because you love me so much, and vice versa,” I said, laughing loudly, breaking the ice because it seemed like Caius was starting to look hot.
“You teasing me, baby?” he said with a hungry look.
I shook my head as I held back my laughter, my hands clasped tightly around his, feeling more confident than ever. I had chosen the right man.
Caius smiled deeper then, gazing at my lips for a moment before finally saying, “Then, don’t ever turn your back on me. Only I have the right to have your heart completely.”
I didn’t have time to reply because the next second, Caius leaned in and gently kissed my forehead.
Warm. Soft and I felt love all the way.
He didn’t demand anything. Didn’t force me to do anything I didn’t want to. He just calmed me down in his way.
I was completely in love with him.
