Chapter 6
Time flew quickly, and before I knew it, I had spent my first Full Moon Day in the Northern Territory.
I found peace in this distant land—no arguments, no betrayals, no slander.
My days were simple but fulfilling: training, combat drills, and guarding the borders.
Just as I was about to head out for the tribe’s night run, Alex approached me.
“Christina, someone’s waiting in the main hall to see you,” he said quietly.
The moment I heard it, my heart stirred–I had a feeling.
But before I could speak, Alex looked at me with pleading eyes, silently begging me not to refuse.
I swallowed my words and followed him into the hall.
As expected, Luke was there.
So were my twin pups.
They ran toward me the moment they saw me.
“Mom! I missed you so much!”
Chris threw himself into my arms, sobbing.
“Why did you come to a place so far away?”
“Please come home with us, Mom. I promise, I’ll never hurt you again,”
Collin clung to my arm, burying his face against me.
I looked at them–my boys.
They seemed thinner, more fragile than when they were by my side.

Their little heads kept nuzzling against my hands, seeking warmth.
I turned away to hide the tears welling up in my eyes.
“Christina… how are you doing here?”
Luke finally spoke, his voice trembling.
“You must’ve been through so much in this harsh land.”
Tears streamed down his pale face.
He looked worn down, like someone recovering from a long illness.
I stared at him.
A familiar ache tugged at my heart–but I buried it.
Before I could respond, Luke continued:
“We haven’t celebrated a single Full Moon Day since
you
left…”
“You could always celebrate it with Kristy,”

I replied coldly, my expression unreadable.
“Christina, I’m sorry.”
Luke’s voice cracked.
“I should never have believed her. I regret everything–I regret turning a blind eye to your pain. You are my mate. And you always will be.”
“Mom, we locked that awful she–wolf in the cellar,”
Chris said, a glimmer of relief in his eyes.
“She’s been down there for nearly a year!”
“We take turns punishing her. Dad even bought a silver whip last month,”

Collin added, as if begging for my forgiveness.
“We won’t let her die, but we won’t let her out–not until you come back.”
Luke’s voice was hoarse now, filled with bitterness.
“After what she did to you, she deserves every second of it.”
I stood there, watching them silently,
but the weight in my chest made it impossible to speak.
The old memories flickered through my mind–memories that refused to fade.

Just as I remained in painful silence, Chris suddenly dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around my leg.
“Mom, please come back with us! I can’t lose you again!”
he cried, his voice trembling.
Collin stepped forward too, his eyes red.
He gently handed me the worn–out family photo he always carried.
“Mom, we miss you. Chris and I sleep with this photo every night.
Please… please come home.”
My heart clenched so tightly I could hardly breathe.
I bit my lip, forcing back the tears that threatened to fall.
Then Luke stepped forward, his eyes full of sorrow.
“Christina, we’re all waiting for our family to be whole again.
I know I failed you. I ignored you for so long, and I’m sorry.”
He paused, his voice breaking.

“But I promise, I’ll never hurt you again.
Let’s renew our bond, as mates. Please…”
He reached out to touch my hand-
but I quickly stepped back.
“Luke,” I said, my voice firm but not cruel,
“I’m sorry. But I’ll be here for another fourteen years.
I’m not going back.”
Then I turned to my pups, softening as I looked into their teary eyes.
“I’m sorry, my little ones. Mom can’t leave with you.
You’ve grown up now. I know you can take care of yourselves.
And I believe–you’ll grow even stronger,
even braver, while I’m away.”
With that, I gently let go of their arms,
forcing myself to walk away as they broke down behind me.
“Christina! We’ll come see you every Full Moon Day!”
Luke called out, his voice filled with hope.
“Mom! We’ll wait for you—no matter how long it takes!”
Chris and Collin shouted in unison.
I paused for a moment.
A sigh escaped my lips.

I squeezed out a bitter smile…
but I didn’t look back.
I disappeared from the hall, leaving behind their cries and broken hearts.
