Anastasia’s stomach dropped. Naked? That meant Aurora was in serious trouble.
She quickly wrote down the address Aurora rattled off, her voice tight with concern. “Aurora, should I call 911? Did someone assault you?”
Aurora’s tone shifted, embarrassed. “No! God, no. Don’t call anyone. It’s… it’s someone I know.”
Anastasia paused, processing. “…”
From Aurora’s guilty tone, Anastasia couldn’t figure out who was taking advantage of whom in this situation.
“Okay, I’ll send someone over with clothes.”
“No!” Aurora’s voice was urgent. “You have to come yourself. Please, I’m begging you.”
“Alright, fine.”
Anastasia hung up and started throwing on clothes.
Cassian got up too, sliding his arms around her waist from behind, his chin resting on her shoulder. Even through her thin shirt, she could feel the heat radiating from his body.

“Don’t bother,” Cassian said casually. “That’s her ex–husband’s apartment.”
“Her ex–WHAT?!” Anastasia spun around, eyes wide.
So Aurora was trying to get back together with him? But then why would she need Anastasia to bring clothes?
Cassian dropped another bombshell. “Aurora’s ex is Theo Maddox. They got married after knowing each other for like three weeks, then divorced just as suddenly. None of us have any idea why they split.”
Anastasia’s jaw dropped. This was way too much drama for one morning.
“Oh my God, that explains everything! Remember when Miss Brooks mentioned you sending Aurora those antacids? I swear I saw someone watching from the shadows. Then Attorney Maddox just appeared out of nowhere…”

Normally, Cassian kept his mouth shut about other people’s business he believed in staying out of personal drama. But Anastasis needed to understand the situation, or she’d keep standing there looking like a confused deer.
“But if I don’t bring her dothes, she’ll be furious with me.”
“You know why she didn’t ask her assistant to go? Because she knows if you show up. Theo won’t pull any stunts. He’ll have to Jet her leave without a fuss.”
Anastasia bit her lip. “Then I definitely should go.”
“You’re missing the point. This isn’t about what guys would do–women think differently. If she’s asking you to bring clothes, it means she wants nothing to do with Attorney Maddox right now. We should respect that,” Anastasia reasoned.
That actually made sense to Cassian, so he agreed to handle Aurora’s clothing delivery.
When they arrived at Theo’s building. Aurora had just gotten the call and was preparing to sneak out wrapped in a bedsheet.
The moment she cracked open the door, she found Theo leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed, wearing a smug grin. “Going somewhere? You trash my place and think you can just waltz out?”
Aurora put on her most innocent face. “You’re supposed to be a lawyer, not some street thug. You can’t just throw around
accusations!”
But Theo was ready for her. He pulled out his phone with a triumphant smile. “Wanna see what you did? I’ve got it all right here!”
Aurora watched the video footage, her face going pale. She absolutely refused to admit that the woman having a complete meltdown on screen was her.
“That’s fake! You deepfaked that video!” she said defiantly.
“Fake? Fine, let’s have it analyzed by experts. I’m sure everyone would love to see your little performance,” Theo shot back.
“You wouldn’t dare!” Aurora stamped her foot like an angry child.
Theo’s grin turned predatory. “So… how exactly are you planning to make this up to me?”
Right as he finished speaking, the doorbell chimed.
Theo’s expression darkened. He had a sinking feeling that Aurora’s backup had arrived.
While Theo was distracted, Aurora made a break for the door.
Theo lunged forward and grabbed the bedsheet she was wrapped in.
Caught completely off guard, Aurora lost her only covering as Theo yanked the sheet away.
“OH MY GOD!”
She was practically hopping mad, hissing through clenched teeth: “Stop staring, you pervert!”
Theo’s smirk widened as he looked her up and down. “Why the modesty? It’s not like this is my first time seeing the goods.”
“You… you absolute…” Aurora’s face turned bright red, too flustered to form complete sentences.
That’s when Anastasia’s voice carried through the door: “Aurora? Are you

there? I brought your clothes!”
Hearing Anastasia’s voice was like hearing a choir of angels to Aurora.
Before Theo could react, she snatched the bedsheet back, wrapped herself up, and bolted for the door.
Theo watched her flee, shaking his head with a rueful smile. Strike out again.
“Aurora, are you okay?” Anastasia asked, taking in Aurora’s flushed face and frazzled appearance.
She’d definitely heard that scream and was worried something terrible had happened. But aside from looking thoroughly embarrassed, Aurora seemed fine.
Remembering what had just transpired, Aurora’s cheeks burned even redder. “I’m fine! Let’s just get out of here.”
Aurora practically ran from the building.
After dropping Aurora off at her apartment, Anastasia and Cassian headed to the office.
The moment Anastasia walked into the design department, she could tell something was seriously wrong.
A small crowd had gathered around Sharlene’s desk, and they all looked pissed off about something.
Sharlene sat in the middle of it all, looking completely dejected and not saying a word.
Anastasia walked over and tried to catch Sharlene’s eye, “Hey, what’s going on?”
The group turned to glare at Anastasia, their voices dripping with disdain. “You’ve got some nerve showing your face around

Another person chimed in: “Seriously! Don’t make promises you can’t keep! Getting someone’s hopes up just to crush them–that’s really low!”
They weren’t naming names, but their meaning was crystal clear and brutal.
Anastasia looked directly at Sharlene, genuinely confused. “What happened? What are they talking about?”
Sharlene slowly raised her eyes to meet Anastasia’s gaze. Her eyes were red–rimmed and watery, like a wounded animal.
She opened her mouth as if to explain, but then seemed to think better of it, turning her head away dismissively.
Sharlene was clearly giving her the cold shoulder.
Anastasia felt her heart sink. She had no idea what had gone wrong, but she genuinely wanted to work things out with
Sharlene.
