Just then, Valeria was wheeled out of the ER. Her eyes were red and puffy like she’d been crying.
The moment she saw Jasper, she broke down sobbing. “Jasper…”
Seeing her like this, Jasper felt à stab of sympathy and walked over to her.
Valeria grabbed his hand and cried even harder.
Jasper gently comforted her, and after a while her emotions finally settled down a bit.
“What the hell happened today?” Jasper asked.
At first, Valeria didn’t want to answer.
She didn’t want Jasper to know about the shit she’d pulled. “I went to meet with Mr. Orlando about a business deal today.”
“Yeah, I know about that,” Jasper said.
Originally, he was supposed to go with her, but some emergency came up at the company that he had to handle, so he’d sent Valeria instead.
Their proposal was solid–he’d been confident they could land the contract.
Valeria’s eyes welled up again as she said hesitantly, “When I got to the equestrian center, I ran into… my
sister. She still won’t forgive me…”
With that, Valeria started wailing again.
Even though she didn’t say anything else, her reaction was pretty telling.
Jasper’s face darkened as he clenched his jaw. “So Anastasia really did attack you?”
Valeria didn’t answer–she never planned to answer directly anyway. She just kept crying and crying.
Jasper would come to his own conclusions.
Getting annoyed with all the crying, Jasper said, “Alright, stop crying. Cassian just told me he’s going to get to the bottom of what happened today.”

“Anastasia hurt you and I haven’t even confronted them about it yet. If anything happens to your baby, I swear I won’t let her get away with it!”
Valeria suddenly froze, her crying stopping dead.
She grabbed Jasper with a look of pure terror, her hands so tense that veins were popping out.
Noticing her panic, Jasper sensed she might be hiding something.
He tested the waters. “Are you keeping something from me?”
Valeria snapped back to reality, bit her lip, and shook her head while putting on an innocent expression. “Jasper, I’m scared!”
“I mean, Cassian might not really love Anastasia, but he’s still with her right now. What if she badmouths us and he decides to come after us? Maybe I should just go apologize.”
With her red–rimmed eyes and sniffling voice, she looked like a pitiful little lamb.
Jasper’s heart melted, and any lingering doubts disappeared completely.
Thinking about the image of Cassian carrying Anastasia away, Jasper felt rage bubbling up inside him. He told Valeria, “I won’t let them get away with this! No matter how powerful Cassian thinks he is, this isn’t some lawless wasteland!”
Valeria’s eyes flickered with a triumphant smile.
