Hearing that fake sweet voice behind her, Anastasia didn’t even bother acknowledging it. She kept walking straight toward the main lobby withou giving it a second thought.
Valeria watched Anastasia’s retreating figure, her face twisting with rage.
Who the hell does she think she is? Acting all high and mighty when she’s just some cast–off.
Bitch doesn’t even know her place anymore!
This was way too good an opportunity to waste.
Valeria hustled after her and grabbed Anastasia’s arm.
Forced to stop, Anastasia turned around looking seriously annoyed, her eyes flashing with irritation. “What the hell do you want?”
Valeria immediately switched on the waterworks, her eyes filling with fake tears. “Oh, so you can hear me? Then why were you totally ignoring me?”
Jesus, this woman missed her calling as an actress, Anastasia thought. With drama skills like that, she could’ve been winning Emmys by now.
Why wasn’t she talking to Valeria? Did she seriously need to spell it out?
Like she could read her mind, Valeria kept up the act. “Ana, are you feeling alright? Here at the hospital for some kind of treatment?”
“I mean, health really is everything, you know?”
“I heard you’ve been having some… problems… which is why you could never get pregnant…”
Valeria put on this mortified expression, slapping her hand over her mouth while mockery danced in her eyes. “Oh my God, sorry! You know me–I have zero filter sometimes.”
“You’re not mad, are you?”
Valeria had just thrown Anastasia’s fertility issues right in her face. Anastasia’s eyes drifted down to Valeria’s belly, noting the unmistakable bump showing through her fitted dress–like she was putting it on display.
Catching where Anastasia was looking, Valeria made a big show of cradling her bump protectively.
Anastasia let out a harsh laugh. “I don’t give a shit what certain people say, since some people apparently got a mouth but skipped the brain.”
Valeria was absolutely livid, but she waited until Anastasia was out of earshot before muttering viciously, “Infertile bitch!”
Anastasia heard it but didn’t turn around.
They’d already broken up–why couldn’t they just leave each other the hell alone?
She’d never used pregnancy to trap Jasper into marriage because she believed that if two people really loved each other, they shouldn’t need external pressure to naturally take that next step.
Her mom had gotten knocked up and rushed into marriage with Sharpson, only to end up completely trapped because of Anastasia, and eventually…
