Chapter 7
Charlotte’s anonymous friend kept posting updates about their supposed love story, but I was trying to ignore the whole shitshow. Torturing myself with that garbage wasn’t going to help anyone.
But then the next day, something weird happened. The account that had been posting all those photos suddenly wiped everything and deleted itself completely.
Right after that, news broke that Charlotte had mysteriously bailed on some major jewelry exhibition she was supposed to attend.
At 3 AM back home, I got a text from an unknown number: [Sophia, you’re heartless! You just walked away without even asking me to explain. Three years of marriage–did you ever love me? Even for a second?]
I knew instantly it was Sebastian. My heart started pounding like a jackhammer. I’d blocked all his numbers after that airport meltdown, so now I frantically blocked this one too and shoved my phone away like it was radioactive.
Did I not love him? I’d loved him for years before we got together, and after we got married, I fell deeper every single day.
Just like that, my whole vacation mood was ruined. He was the one who fucked up, so how dare he come at me with accusations?
The more I thought about it, the more pissed off I got. I unblocked the number and fired back: [What about you? Your three years matter but mine don’t? If you don’t want me, then just let me go!]
His behavior made absolutely no sense. Logic said he should be thrilled I walked away–no messy confrontation, no having to figure out how to dump the inconvenient wife.
But instead, he was furious. Every text was this pathetic guilt trip, acting like I was the villain. My mom told me he’d already booked a flight to come find me.
When my best friend stormed over to his place to give him hell, he just had maid escort her out and said coldly: “I’m never getting divorced. I don’t owe you any explanations. When the truth comes out, you better crawl back here and apologize.”

Chapter 7
This whole mess was making my head spin. On one hand, I’d seen what I’d seen. On the other hand, Sebastian was acting like I was completely insane for even questioning him.
I stared at the hotel ceiling, trying to make sense of any of it. Nothing added up.
People always say you turn into a complete mess when you meet someone you truly love–and that was definitely me. Especially with Charlotte being the third wheel in our whole story.
f it had been any other woman, I wouldn’t have lost my shit like this. But I’d seen Sebastian and Charlotte together before–all that intimacy, all that history. I also remembered how our families had basically arranged our whole relationship, how everything just sort of fell into place without us eally choosing each other.
3ut now that I’d calmed down a bit, I realized Sebastian had a point. I hadn’t actually asked him to explain anything. If I was going to end this marriage, I at least deserved to know the truth. I couldn’t ust run away like some dramatic teenager.
Once I’d made up my mind, I figured even if he looked me in the eye and admitted he loved Charlotte, admitted he’d been cheating–maybe I could handle it better than before.
But before I could work up the courage to call him, his assistant’s number flashed on my screen.
My phone was vibrating so violently it matched my racing heartbeat. The voice on the other end was ure panic: “Mrs. Hayes! Mr. Hayes was just in a car accident–can you please come back?!”
