We were free, ready to embark on a new journey. My heart waltzed in happiness when Bright grasped my wrist, pulling me closer.
“We are a family, Drielle!”
The heat of his intense gaze made me blush, turning my cheeks cherry tomato. Jane collided her small hands to clap and spoke excitedly.

and friends.
Daddy needs to know about your likes and dislikes.”

Jane’s exhilarated tone in response was like a first drop of rain after decades old drought, moistening the barren land of my heart. I could easily say that these were the best eight hours of my life that we spent together.
We sat in Jane’s room and saw her pictures, watched the recordings of her aerospace science fair presentations, and then went out for dinner. She unlocked a new feature of life after meeting her dad.
Whenever I said ‘No‘, she looked at Bright with puppy dog eyes, getting his instant approval. Like, I stopped her from eating ice cream, but she wrapped her small arms around her daddy’s legs.
“I want ice cream, daddy. You don’t know my favorite flavor.”

After a splendid day, Jane fell asleep on our way back home, Bright took this opportunity to raise an important topic.
“Drielle, I will contact my lawyers tomorrow for the legal process, and then we will go to meet my elders.

We will look for a date for the engagement ceremony…”
I stared at Bright in awe as he spoke nonstop, mentioning the future planning that I hadn’t even considered. His dedication to fulfill his fatherly duties made me swoon.

Sucking in breath, I nodded, inviting the heart fluttering warmth of his lips. My heart raced like a galloping horse in my chest when our lips touched passionately, igniting the fire of mutual love and respect.
There were no words in the dictionary to explain the ecstasy of being in a relationship with a loving partner. It was remarkably better than wasting time over unrequited bitter love.
I wanted this moment to never end but my cell phone’s ringtone yanked me out of my dream world. Bright groaned,
and bit my lower lip gently before letting me go.
Smiling shyly, I answered the call, it was an unknown number. A masculine voice sounded anxious on the other
side.
“Miss Drielle, this is officer Nolan speaking. Please come to the fourth avenue as swiftly as possible!”
Fourth avenue aka Felix’s office?
But why?
My query was overlooked by that officer’s hurried shower of information, he blew my head away.
“Mr. Felix is trying to commit suicide, and we are unable to enter his office. He has only one demand: He wishes to
see you.
Please reach the fourth avenue quickly, it’s a matter of life and death.”
