Chapter 16 She Wants a Car

Johanna carefully prepared breakfast, packed it neatly in a lunch box, and rushed to the office area, eager to deliver it to Theron

When she arrived, she put on a calm and polite smile. I’m looking for Mr. Howland, she said to the security guard at the office gate. Mr. Howland went on a business trip last night, the guard informed her

Johanna’s smile froze, and her fingers tightened around the lunch box. How long will Mr. Howland be gone?she asked anxiously

No comment, the guard replied, looking at her strangely

Even though Lizzie rarely came to the office, everyone knew who she was and that she was Theron’s girlfriend

The guard wondered why Johanna was asking about Theron

Johanna awkwardly smiled, I’m here to thank Mr. Howland and bring him something. Since he’s not around, I’ll head back first.”

She slowly turned away from the security guard. The polite smile on her face quickly disappeared

Johanna gently touched her flat stomach, her eyes flickering

She had to use Theron’s absence to sever his relationship with Lizzie completely

Lizzie, don’t blame me for being heartless. I’m just a mother trying to give my child a complete family, she thought, her eyes hardening

Johanna straightened up and strode over to the Equinox Research Laboratory

In the morning, the Trevino family left after breakfast. Only Lizzie remained at home

Lizzie opened the periodical and pulled out a stack of redlined notebooks. Sitting at the worn wooden table, she be- gan translating

Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a soft glow on her slender fingers as they held the pen

The nib scratched against the paper, creating a gentle rustling sound. Neat, forceful handwriting filled the page

She translated with incredible speed, even faster than at the bookstore. Words flowed effortlessly

Her focus was so intense that only the sound of the pen filled the quiet room

When one sheet was done, she dried the ink, set it aside, and continued

She was so engrossed that she didn’t notice the time until the alarm clock struck eleven

Both Emery and Glenna worked outside, and Colton was at school. Normally, everyone brought their own lunch and ate at work or school

Not wanting to be a bother, Lizzie grabbed her crutch and slowly headed to the kitchen to reheat some cold dishes

That was when Colton burst in

Lizzie!Colton rushed into the courtyard, his voice echoing ahead of him

Hearing the noise in the kitchen, he guessed Lizzie was reheating lunch and hurried inside

Lizzie, let me handle it! With your injured leg, it’s not easy for you to move around. Just have a good rest. I’ll take care of you.”

He’d come back from school just to look after Lizzie. He didn’t want her leg to get hurt again. What if it left a perma- nent problem and never healed properly

The Trevino family never favored boys over girls. Even though Colton was still young, he had long learned to help out with household chores

Lizzie didn’t argue. She sat on a small stool and waited

They had their meal in the living room. Then Lizzie tutored him in Latin for a while. After that, he dashed off to school again in a hurry

Lizzie watched his back. She knew that no matter how much she acted like she didn’t need their care and she couldn’t be a burden, Emery, Glenna, and Colton would never agree to let her stay home alone for a whole day

If that was the case, having a car would at least make Colton’s trips a bit easier

Advanced translators got benefits

Lizzie originally just wanted to use translation as a stopgap. But now she was full of drive. She wanted to quickly be- come an advanced translator and get those benefits

fter lunch, Lizzie stopped hiding her translation skills. She’d been given a second chance at life, so why not shine ightly

he sped up her translation. Before Colton got out of school, she had finished translating the entire periodical

She knew the promotion requirements for translators. A primary translator needed to translate ten periodicals with an accuracy rate of 95% to get promoted

An intermediate translator needed to translate ten professionallevel periodicals with an accuracy rate of 97% to get promoted

As for an advanced translator, the accuracy rate needed to reach 98%

Lizzie could ensure that her translations had an accuracy rate of over 99%, even close to 100%

It wasn’t that she thought she could do it. She had already done it in her previous life

Lizzie recalled her previous life again. Fredrick held her translated manuscript, his eyes filled with regret

She gripped her pen tightly. In this life, she would never let herself be wronged without reason again

No matter who tried to smear her, she would hit back without hesitation

Lizzie sorted out the translated manuscript. Just as she was about to put it into a paper bag, Colton came back

Colton saw her putting the manuscript in and marking the cover. He was so shocked that his jaw almost dropped

Lizzie, you finished translating so quickly? But didn’t Fredrick say this was a week’s worth of work?Colton asked, clearly stunned

Nowadays, lots of people know French, but I’m one of the few who are really good at Latin,Lizzie replied

She was telling the truth, but in this remote county, her skills were truly exceptional

Colton was in awe of Lizzie. She was so capable and humble. She was just amazing

Then I’ll go submit the manuscript now,Colton said, grabbing the periodical and the translated manuscript as he headed out

At this time, few people went to bookstores. Even if they did, they usually buy storybooks or quote collections

Fredrick heard the door open but didn’t look up. The quote collections are out of stock right now. If you want to buy them, come back next week.”

Fredrick,Colton greeted

Fredrick looked up immediately

He couldn’t forget how dazzling Lizzie had been the day before, and he remembered Colton, who had pushed her in

Didn’t you just come yesterday? What’s up? Did Lizzie have trouble with the translation? Does she need a Latin dic- tionary? Too bad that someone took on a translation job this morning and borrowed the Latin dictionary,Fredrick said
