Chapter 10 Create an Opportunity
Lizzie was busy writing up some documents while Colton was studying hard beside her.
Glenna watched them, all smiles. She hadn’t seen Colton study so hard for a long time.
Not wanting to disturb them, she took the dish back to the pot to keep it warm.
Emery came back from work. Just as he was about to greet them, Glenna quickly came out of the kitchen, glanced into the room, and signaled him to be quieter.
Emery found it funny. He didn’t expect Lizzie to keep Colton in check!
These days, people said studying was pointless. But in the steel factory where he worked, a college–educated senior technician was super popular. He joined the factory before graduating and became a sought–after person there.
So, even if Colton couldn’t take exams, studying was still important!
Glenna and Emery happily went to the kitchen, chatting in low voices.
Lizzie heard the noise and put aside the half–written documents.
When Colton saw her move, he quickly stuffed his textbook into his schoolbag.
Halfway through, noticing Lizzie’s gaze, he froze for a moment and then turned to her. “Lizzie, I… I was afraid you’d be hungry. You look so thin. After we have dinner, I’ll definitely continue with my studies!”
Even though he said that, he still looked at Lizzie carefully.
Lizzie’s expression softened, and she smiled, “Studying isn’t something that happens overnight. Let’s call it a day. You can rest after dinner.”
Colton’s face lit up. “Great! I’ll definitely do well in school tomorrow!”
As he spoke, he neatly packed his schoolbag and went to the kitchen to get the meal.
Emery walked in, his face solemn. Obviously, Glenna had already told him what happened, and he was fuming.
But Glenna reminded him that Lizzie had her own plans and he should stay out of it for now. So he held back.
The next day, Lizzie was at home working on documents. As it was almost time for Colton to finish school, Lizzie had already sorted out a thick stack of documents, carefully put them into a file bag, and sealed it.
“Lizzie, I’m back. Are you done?” Colton put down his schoolbag, his forehead covered with fine sweat. Obviously, he had run all the way back.
“Yeah, let’s go.” Lizzie nodded, signaling him to push her out.

Colton walked behind the wheelchair, held the handles with both hands, and skillfully pushed Lizzie out of the house.
Because the dismissal notice for Lizzie had been suppressed by Theron using his connections, she could still freely enter and exit the Equinox Research Institute for the time being, but Colton couldn’t get in.
Lizzie stood up from the wheelchair, leaning on a crutch, and walked step by step toward the lab gate.
The bodyguard recognized her. Although he looked straight ahead without glancing sideways, there was a flash of disdain in his eyes. He thought, “She has been dismissed by the lab. How could she have the nerve to come back?”
Lizzie ignored those looks. She walked straight to the gate, found a spot out of the way beside the bodyguard booth, and stood there quietly.
In her previous life, after being dismissed by the Equinox Research Institute, she was sent by Theron to his home- town. It wasn’t until two years later, when the storm had passed, that she came back.
So, she had never seen that leader.
But when she heard Theron and Johanna talking about the past, she knew a commander had come around that time.
He was young but had a strong presence. Johanna was under a lot of pressure back then.
The person Lizzie was looking for was him.
Lizzie waited patiently. As time ticked by, the injury on her leg started to hurt from standing too long. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, and the wound throbbed.
She shifted her weight slightly, trying to take some pressure off her injured leg.
In the distance, a dark green jeep slowly drove over. The wheels rolled on the road, making a slight rubbing sound.
Both Lizzie and the bodyguard noticed the car at the same time.
The license plate of this car was HU, obviously not a local vehicle.
The person she was looking for had arrived!
Lizzie squeezed the file bag in her hand and slowly turned around.
The bodyguard was afraid that Lizzie would pester, so he got ready to stop her.
Inside the car, the man in the back seat was looking at the documents in his hand.
He looked up casually and noticed a thin figure standing beside the bodyguard booth. She was leaning on a crutch, her figure a bit unsteady, but still standing straight.
Looking at her clean and stubborn little face, he recognized that this girl was the one he had hit a few days ago.
“Stop the car,” the man said in a deep voice. “Go and ask her what she wants.”
The bodyguard in the front passenger seat glanced at his watch anxiously. “Mr. Guinn, Prof. Stone’s train has ar- rived…”

“Do as I say.”
“Yes.”
The driver immediately stepped on the brake, and the car stopped steadily by the roadside.

Lizzie was just about to walk over when the car door opened. A man in a uniform got out of the car and walked to- ward her.
Jarred Juarez looked at Lizzie with sympathy.
She was betrayed by her fiancé, losing both her reputation and her job. It was really pitiful.
He looked at Lizzie sympathetically but still said in an official tone, “Ma’am, go back, please. Just wait for the inves- tigation.”
Lizzie was stunned when she heard his words.
She didn’t recognize Jarred, wondering, “Are there many false cases in Equinox Research Institute? Did someone else stop the car to appeal for justice before?”
The thought flashed through her mind, and she handed the thick paper file bag in her hand to Jarred. “Give this mate- rial to Mr. Guinn, please.”
Jarred took the file bag. It was heavy in his hand, and he could feel the weight of the stack of materials.
He thought Lizzie was here to complain. This thick stack probably meant a lot of grievances.
But Terrence Guinn was swamped with work. How could he have time for such trivial matters?
Afraid that Lizzie would keep pestering, Jarred took the materials, planning to get rid of them later.
Lizzie didn’t say much. She knew the value of this material and wasn’t afraid that Terrence wouldn’t see its worth.
So, she turned around neatly, leaned on her crutch, and slowly walked out of the gate.
After she left, the dark green jeep slowly started and drove past Lizzie.
Jarred held the file bag, watching Lizzie’s figure disappear in the rearview mirror. He couldn’t help but mutter in a low voice, “This girl is quite stubborn, but a bit clueless. Mr. Guinn is so busy. How could he have time for such triv- ial things?”
The man in the back seat didn’t respond immediately. His gaze stayed outside the window, following the thin figure that gradually disappeared in the rearview mirror.
At that moment, Jarred pulled out the contents of the file bag. At a glance, he saw a line of delicate yet forceful char-
acters.
It wasn’t the start of a petition letter but a title, “Optimization of Semiconductors.”
Jarred’s expression instantly turned serious. He quickly flipped through the materials in his hand. The more he read, the more surprised and serious he became.

He quickly handed the materials to Terrence in the back seat, his voice brimming with excitement and disbelief. “Mr. Guinn, look!”
Terrence took the materials and quickly flipped through them. His usually calm eyes grew deeper and sharper.
He thought of Lizzie again, leaning on a crutch, her back stubbornly straight.
She knew appealing for justice might be ignored, so she found a way to get his attention! It also showed her value!
He curled his lips slightly into a meaningful smile.
“Interesting.”
