The following day, Caleb brought me to a banquet hall.
Initially, I assumed we were attending an event, but I soon realized that wasn’t the case. The venue was exquisitely and romantically decorated, adorned with posters of Caleb and me.
In the center, a large screen started displaying clips of us from our childhood to adulthood.
Both our parents were present, watching me with joyful expressions.
It suddenly became clear to me what was happening.
I turned to see Caleb on one knee, holding out a diamond ring. He said, “Diana, even though you’ve already agreed to marry me, I want to propose to you in front of all our family and friends.
“I’ve been dreaming of this moment for years. Will you marry me?”
As I was about to speak, a disturbance erupted outside.
John yelled with passion, “Don’t marry him. Don’t!”
He attempted to burst in but was held back by the bodyguards.
I turned to Caleb, who was kneeling before me, and nodded, “I do.”
Caleb grinned, slid the diamond ring onto my finger, and leaned in to kiss me.
I wrapped my arms around him tightly, tears filling my eyes.
The heavens have favored me. After all the ups and downs, I’ve found the happiness that truly belongs to me.
Caleb softly murmured in my ear, “Diana, I love you.”
I beamed and answered, “I love you too.”
True love revolves around mutual respect and understanding, not blind demands or self–righteousness.
The crowd couldn’t help but applaud and offer their blessings to us.
When John witnessed this, it was as if his spirit had been drained. He cried out until his voice gave out, yet he could- n’t prevent me from agreeing to marry Caleb.
Overwhelmed with regret, he dropped to his knees.
Only then did he realize that I had moved on and was no longer his.
He was deeply distressed, covering his face with his hands, tears seeping through his fingers, feeling as lost as a child.

Over the weekend, I had plans to meet a friend for some shopping.
Upon my arrival, I noticed she hadn’t arrived yet, so I waited by the roadside.
Suddenly, I heard someone call my name, “Diana!” and turned to see Kelsie standing there.
She accused me, “It’s your fault my husband won’t come home!”
With a knife in hand, she glared at me with anger. “Diana, you should die!” she shouted.
Just as I tried to evade her attack, John appeared out of nowhere, stepping in between us.
The knife plunged into his abdomen, and he collapsed to the ground, bleeding heavily.
Kelsie stared at John in disbelief and shouted frantically, “You’re not even scared to die for her!”
She had assumed that after spending more than half a year together, John had fallen in loɣye with her. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have hurt me for her sake. She couldn’t comprehend why John would protect me so fiercely.
John replied tenderly, “I’ve already told you… The only person I love is Diana…”
Kelsie laughed wildly, as if she’d heard a ridiculous joke.
“Then both of you can die together!” she exclaimed, attempting to stab me with the knife once more.
However, she failed. Caleb arrived just in time, grasped her wrist, and kicked her away.
Kelsie fled.
Caleb examined me closely from head to toe. “Are you hurt?” he asked.
I shook my head. “I’m fine.”
Lying on the ground, John looked at me. “Diana,” he called.
I turned to face him.
His fingers, stained with blood, reached out, his eyes full of affection. “Can I touch your face?” he asked.
I remained silent, just looking down at him.
He cautiously repeated, “If I could go back, I wouldn’t have done it. I’m sorry. Can you forgive me?”
Even then, all he desired was my forgiveness.
But I still didn’t respond.
I suddenly remembered when I first heard about his death in a car accident last year. I had attempted suicide by slit- ting my wrists. Back then, he looked at me like an outsider, saying I was strong and didn’t truly want to end my life.
John couldn’t hide his disappointment, though he forced a smile and said, “It doesn’t matter. The only thing that mat- ters is that you’re safe…”

Chapter 8
Caleb took my hand and suggested, “Let’s go.”
I agreed and started to leave.
John broke down, tears streaming down his face.
“I deeply regret it, Diana. I’m so sorry…”
He longed for me to turn back and look at him, yet I never did.

John passed away. When he arrived at the hospital, the doctors said he had lost too much blood, and all efforts to save him were futile.
Shortly after, Kelsie was arrested and faced the death penalty. It seemed inevitable that one life would be exchanged for another.
Not long after, Caleb and I married, and I became pregnant. Caleb was ecstatic.

He already showered me with affection, but now he was even more attentive. He stopped going to the office daily, choosing instead to focus entirely on me, cherishing me as if I were the most valuable treasure, almost as if he could keep me safely within himself.
I playfully asked him, “Who do you love more, me or the baby?”
Caleb, visibly anxious, quickly reassured me, “Sweetheart, you’re the one I love the most. I only love the baby be- cause it’s a part of you!”
I was already aware of his deep affection for me, so I embraced him with a smile and said, “Thank you, Caleb.”
True love always leads to marriage!
The end.
