Chapter 21
Gretchen was escorted out by the maid, and in an instant, there were only Howard, Veronica, and the man left in the basement.
Veronica was terrified, looking at the man she once loved as if he was a devil.
“Howard, are you crazy?! You’re just a lunatic! Aren’t you afraid of karma?”
Her voice was hoarse, sounding like she hadn’t had a drink in a long time, and it also sounded a bit weak.
Upon hearing this, Howard glanced at her, then got up and walked over to her. He pinched her chin, looked at the fear in her eyes, and suddenly laughed, “Retribution. Why should I be afraid? When you guys did those things, you never thought about retribution. Now how dare you blame me?”
When she heard his words, Veronica looked a bit puzzled.
What things? What things?
Realizing it might be a misunderstanding, Veronica seemed to grasp a glimmer of hope, squeezed out a few tears, and put on a pitiful look.
“Howard, did you mess up? Who did what, I really don’t know anything!”
Her voice was trembling, but she mustered up the courage. However, the next second, he forcefully pushed her away, then tool a handkerchief to wipe his hands, as if he had just touched something dirty.

Embarrassment and anger surged up, but now her situation was just too bad for her to even dare to say a word of retort.
Veronica had thought about many possible reactions from Howard, but she never expected him to suddenly explode in anger after hearing her words.

The disgust and hatred in his eyes were like a blunt knife cutting into her, torturing her once.
But what really got to her was Howard’s next words.
“Five years ago, you almost got Grete raped by your own actions. Now I’m giving you back the same tactics you used. You bette
hold on, otherwise, this game won’t be fun anymore.”
Veronica felt like all her blood froze in that moment.
Just left Gretchen, those people who had their hands cut off not long ago, myself locked in the basement, and this stranger wit
a somewhat familiar face on the side.
All the clues in her mind intertwined and finally pieced together into an answer that she found hard to accept.
“So, you did all this because of Gretchen?”
Howard didn’t say anything, he stood up and confirmed her guess, “As long as you all get what you deserve, Grete will definitely forgive me.”
After saying that, he looked at the man who was trying hard to diminish his presence, then dropped a line, “She gave it to you, remember, the more miserable she is, the more hope you have to leave here.”
Upon hearing this, the man suddenly looked up, a smile on his face, watching Howard leave the basement, and he made sure to reassure him, “Mr. Wiggins, you can trust me, I won’t let you down!”
As the man got closer, she instinctively wanted to escape, but she couldn’t because of the iron chain binding her.

“Howard, you can’t treat me like this!”
“Howard, I was wrong, I went to apologize, don’t leave me!”
“Howard!”
The soundproofing in the basement was good, but it still couldn’t stop Veronica’s crying and begging.
The person who used to bully herself is now getting what they deserve. It should be a satisfying thing, but she can’t feel any happiness in her heart.
Howard squatted down in front of her and tentatively asked, “How about it, Grete? Are you satisfied? If you’re not satisfied, just tell me. As long as you can vent and forgive me, I’ll do anything.”
She looked up at Howard, who hadn’t even wrinkled his suit until this moment, and the pent-up anger in her heart never dissipated.
After thinking about it, she looked at the face in front of her that had been detached from beginning to end, and Gretchen finally understood where that awkward feeling in her heart came from.
“Is that it?” she said.
Howard was taken aback, then he softened his expression, with a hint of indulgence in his eyes, as if no matter what she said, he wouldn’t get angry, just thinking about where he fell short.
“What did Grete think was lacking?”
Gretchen’s eyes turned cold, still staring at his face, and she said in a flat tone, “Not enough people.”
“Howard, it wasn’t just them who bullied me back then.”
Upon hearing this, Howard’s face turned cold. He grabbed her wrist, but he also tried hard to suppress the coldness in his words, “Who else? You tell me. I’ve said it before, anyone who has bullied you, I won’t let them off.”
