Chapter 14
I saw Howard again a week after Gretchen returned to Beblistan.
She had just started her new job and received the title of senior designer not long ago when her boss handed her a contract. “The other party specifically requested you to negotiate this collaboration, Grete. This is a big deal. If you can seal the deal, our branch will be firmly established in Beblistan. You must make it happen!”
Gretchen looked puzzled at the plan being stuffed into her arms, with a hint of hesitation in her expression, “Designate me to
talk?”
She furrowed her brows, feeling like something was off.
Although she was originally from Beblistan, she used to be just a regular person struggling to make ends meet. Even though she had connections to Howard and the Wiggins family, not many people really took her seriously.
Later on, she went to Usmington, spent two years studying architecture, and then spent three years working her way up from a new designer to a senior designer. Although she was somewhat famous, she was definitely not at the point where someone would specifically ask her to collaborate. Besides, she had just returned to her home country, where she was just a no-name architect. How could anyone specify that they wanted her?
Thinking about this, she suddenly remembered something and looked up at the design director, Melissa Shaffer.
“Since you want me to talk, I should at least know a bit about the other person, right?” When Melissa didn’t say anything, she continued, “Don’t you know who they are?”
Melissa was grinning from ear to ear and proudly said, “the Wiggins Group.”
The air fell silent all of a sudden. The answer was expected, but Gretchen remained silent, holding the contract, without saying
a word for a long time.
Melissa, however, seemed oblivious to her unusual behavior, took a sip of water and then started painting a rosy picture for her, “Grete, if you had told me earlier that you had connections to big companies like the Wiggins Group, I could have cleared out the director position for you! Why bother settling for just a senior designer?”
Gretchen shook her head, no hint of joy on her face, she remained silent for a while before saying, “Even if I don’t have any connections, I want to become the design director based on my own abilities.”
Melissa paused, surprised by his response.
She glanced at Gretchen for a moment, then suddenly smiled and said, “Alright, whether you know anyone here or not, you came back with me anyway. I trust your abilities. As for wanting to become the design director on your own, well, you’ll just
have to wait and see.”
“Speaking of which,” she joked with a smile, “after all, I’m still young, and Peyton hasn’t shown any intention of promoting two design directors to balance each other out.”
Upon hearing this, Gretchen also smiled and said, “Then I’ll work harder to defeat you soon.”
Gretchen ended up taking on the task of this negotiation in the end.
After all, Peyton had just returned to the country and was in need of a chance to make a name for himself. Working with the Wiggins Group was undoubtedly the best choice.
Opportunities that come knocking on your door should not be pushed away.
Even though she was already prepared in her heart, Gretchen couldn’t help but take another look at Howard when she saw him

again.
Five years later, he has changed a lot.
The aura of the superior on him was much stronger, making him look more dignified and cold. As soon as he walked into the meeting room, Howard’s gaze directly locked onto Gretchen standing at the front.
He didn’t say anything, but the emotions in his eyes were so intense, as if they were about to burst out in the next second, hiding love and pain.
Gretchen didn’t know where this love and pain came from, and she didn’t care what he was thinking. When everyone was present, she started talking about her plan.
Time passed by minute by minute. When she finished speaking, the extremely responsible people who came along were all very satisfied. Only Howard sat there dumbfounded the whole time, watching her explain the drawings with a radiant look, as if she
was glowing.
