In just one afternoon, the whole company was trending for all the wrong reasons.
Edwin watched the story spiral from bad to worse, his stomach in knots. The PR and legal teams were losing their minds, blowing up his phone.
He bolted into Caleb’s office like his ass was on fire.
Caleb barely looked up from his paperwork, his tone
nonchalant. “What’s got your panties in a twist? Caroline behind bars yet, or did she miracle her way out?”
Edwin shoved his phone in Caleb’s face.“Ms. Warren’s arrest is trending everywhere! Now everyone’s digging into every project she ever touched!”
Caleb frowned, clearly irritated. “Caroline’s doing? Is she trying to get back at us?”
Edwin shook his head. “Mr. Martin, the cops got her phone
carlier. She’s probably still getting grilled at the police station. She can’t orchestrate this kind of news.”

Caleb’s face softened. “Makes sense. She doesn’t have the balls
either.”
She got where she is because of me. All her status? My doing.
If she’s not behind this trending mess, guess she still cares about her job.
That divorce? Just a stunt.
Edwin just couldn’t believe how chill Caleb was while the situation got worse.
He nervously pushed on. “Mr. Martin, people are demanding that we audit everything Ms. Warren has been involved in. Pre–sale refunds are flooding in, and going through another inspection will cost us a fortune!”
Caleb shrugged it off. “Got nothing to hide, got nothing to fear. If this little drama’s got you running in here screaming like a headless chicken, maybe rethink that assistant position.”
Edwin shut up real quick.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s just pure hatred fueling whatever Mr. Martin’s doing with Caroline.
Years of forced marriage, and he gets off on making her life hell.

So why set her up to gel arrested?

Just when Edwin was about to grab his phone, Caleb’s face went. dark seeing what was playing on the screen.
Edwin had accidentally clicked on a livestream. On it, Caroline was walking out of the police station, with reporters swarming like vultures.
She was wearing a serene smile, looking like pure class.
A tall figure by her side was playing bodyguard, blocking cameras left and right.
They were whispering back and forth.
The second Caleb recognized the guy, his face went nuclear.
It was Anthony Pierce, his biggest business rival ever.
The chat in the live was going absolutely nuts.

Everyone in the comments was like “who???“, but whoever spilled that tea just went radio silent.
Not a single soul was brave enough to drop Caleb’s name in that chat.
Instead, everyone started going wild about Caroline and Anthony’s history.
Watching them get cozy on screen, Caleb’s eyes went killer mode.
She’s totally trying to get me pressed, same energy as when she brought up the divorce.
Like he could smell the drama, Anthony turned and hit the
camera with his smug grin. “Y’all need to chill with the theories. I ain’t playing hero–Ms. Warren just deserves better.”

Caroline’s updates were right there staring him in the face.
Her resignation post, with Anthony’s comments, had him going bananas.
Caleb’s face clouded over. He jumped up, grabbed his jacket.
“I’m coming with you,” he barked at Edwin.
Outside the police station, reporters were all up in Caroline’s grill with their mics, straight disrespecting personal space.
“Ms. Warren, you’re trending for some white–collar crime, and our sources say it’s legit. Even Anthony can’t save you if this sticks. What’s the deal between you two? Chicago justice system collapse or what?”
Those messy questions had everyone shook for a second. All eyes were on Caroline like she were on trial.
But she didn’t even flinch. Confidently, she whipped out her phone to show the chat logs.
“Look, I’m here because some factory owner’s claiming I took bribes and supplied shoddy materials. But see these–just his
