Caroline grabbed William just before he could intervene in the fight.
“Stop, William! What are you doing? Breaking it up?”
“What else? Just let them brawl?” William retorted.
Caroline pointed out, “Look around. Anyone else jumping in?”
William frowned, “But Anthony’s here for business. If the media gets wind, Supreme Sword’s reputation will tank again.”
Caroline tapped his temple, “That’s even better. Free publicity.”
“What on earth-”
“Oh, shut up. Go upstairs and eat.
Not long after, the police arrived.
From upstairs, Caroline watched Caleb and Anthony get taken
away.
After the meal, she returned to her apartment and flopped onto
the couch to shake off the effects of the alcohol.
On the table sat the stuff she’d packed up earlier from the Martin Group–two full boxes.

Caroline rubbed her temples and then sat up to start sorting through the boxes. Suddenly, her fingers brushed against a card.
It was a hotel reservation card, and the name printed on it was Michelle’s.
Caroline’s eyes widened.
Cursing her luck, she almost trashed it but paused.
It was from the Four Seasons Hotel, funded by the Garcia Group, Martin Group’s rival.
Caleb wouldn’t stay there, and Michelle definitely knew it.
Caroline quickly showered, changed clothes, and headed straight to the hotel.
Once she walked in, the receptionist asked politely, “Hello, are you checking in?”
“I’m here for the part–time gig,” Caroline replied with a bashful smile. “The manager told me to come in tonight for training. Could you tell me where’s that?”
“Oh… Part–time staff?” She glanced around, not spotting
anyone. “Wait here a moment, I’ll make a quick call to check for you.”

As soon as the receptionist turned away, Caroline got busy on the computer.
Her time at the Martin Group meant she knew their hotel systems inside out.
With just a few quick clicks and the reservation card number, she had the info she needed.
When Caroline saw Anthony’s name, she froze for a few seconds.
Then, just as she was processing it, she heard a noise behind her.
With no time to think, she quickly closed the tab.
The receptionist walked back to the counter and said, “Our team lead said we’re not hiring part–timers.”
Feigning surprise, Caroline checked her phone, “Oops, wrong hotel.”
The receptionist twitched, and Caroline dashed out.
Time was tight, so Caroline hadn’t snapped a photo, but she had seen enough.
Anthony booked the room with his ID, but Michelle held the
card.

Interesting. Huh. Looks like they’ve known each other for a while.
There’s no way he doesn’t know how much Michelle despises
- me.
Then, his so–called confession has ulterior motives!
Caroline smirked, lips curling in amusement.
Just then, her phone rang.
She tapped to answer, and Caleb’s voice came through immediately. “Come to the station.”
“And I’m supposed to listen to you?” she shot back.
Caleb, barely containing his anger, snapped, “If not for you, would I be at the station? Do you know how much the Martin Group’s losing?”
“Not my damn problem!” Caroline said sharply, ready to hang
- up.
She’d been generous not to kick him when he was down, and now he expected her to testify?
Suddenly, another voice came through the phone, polite but
firm.

“Ms. Warren, this is the Chicago Police Station. We need your statement. Please cooperate.”
Caroline paused for a beat before reluctantly saying, “Alright.”
Half an hour later, she finally arrived at the police station.
The moment she stepped inside, she saw two men sitting on opposite sides of the room.
Caleb’s glare was like a blade. She could even feel the cold, murderous edge from across the room.
As for Anthony, his face and body were covered in cuts and bruises. His clothes were wrinkled and filthy, and he looked up at her with those pretty, pitiful eyes. All Caroline could think of at that moment was what a damn actor he was.
“Your husband said I hit him first, Caroline. Stand up for me,” Anthony pleaded, his voice dripping with implication. “Look at me. I couldn’t take him. Why start something? You saw it. Tell
the truth.”
Caroline turned her head and looked him over for a few seconds.
That act was Oscar–worthy.
Lucky I found that hotel key, or I might’ve bought your BS.

Without acknowledging Anthony, she asked the officers, “Where do I give my statement?”
One of them then led her to the interview room.
It didn’t take long to give her statement. They asked just a handful of questions, and she answered them all honestly.
Within fifteen minutes, she was cleared to go.
Just then, Michelle burst through the door, heels clicking as she ran in on four–inch stilettos,
Her eyes were red and watery as she threw herself into Caleb’s
arms,
“Are you hurt?” she asked, her voice trembling,
Caroline suddenly let out a sneer, shattering the tender moment between them. “Move,” she said sharply. “Some of us have places to be.”
Caleb’s eyes flicked toward her, a slight furrow between his brows.
Without saying a word, he subtly removed Michelle’s hands from his body.
Michelle froze for a second,

She glanced at Caroline and instantly realized what was going
- on.
Biting her lip, Michelle looked like she was about to cry–her pitiful expression practically begged for sympathy.
Right then, an officer pointed at Caleb and said, “You’re free to go.”
Anthony chimed in, “What about me?”
“You’ll have to wait,” the officer replied.
Anthony shot Caleb a disgruntled look and mocked, “Wow, Mr. Martin, you beat me up and then had two women show up to bail you out. Must be nice, huh? Talk about living the dream.”
Caleb answered coolly, “Still better than being played like a fool by some manipulative woman.”
Caroline, who had already reached the door, paused.
She turned on her heel and walked right back in. A sharp smile tugged at her lips.
“You want the Supreme Sword? With that attitude? Guess I spoiled you rotten. Still act like you’re some king or something. Even if I got brain damage, no way I’m signing it over!”
Caleb shrugged. “Didn’t mention any names. Why so defensive?”

Hearing that, Caroline clenched her fists tightly.
If they weren’t at the police station right now, she would’ve slapped him right across the face.

Anthony seized the moment and said, “See? Classic hothead. I’m way more chill, I swear. Once you’re divorced, come be with me. You won’t catch me snapping at you like that.”
Caroline rolled her eyes hard.
Yeah, right, Anthony.
At least Caleb’s honest about being a jerk.
Your nice guy act? Pure snake.
Michelle looked between them and then hesitantly asked Caroline, “What’s going on between you and Mr. Garcia?”
“I’m after her,” Anthony admitted without shame. His tone was playful, but his face stayed dead serious. “So, hurry up and bag Mr. Martin, Ms. Adams. Then Caroline’s all mine.”
Michelle’s cheeks flushed pink. “What do you expect me to do? Mr. Garcia likes Caroline,” she muttered.
But even as the words left her mouth, she leaned in toward Caleb, her body betraying her.

Caroline saw it all and nearly burst out laughing.

“You sure know how to pick your bets, Mr. Garcia. Don’t let Ms. Adams‘ little secretary title fool you. Won’t be long before she becomes Mrs. Martin.”
Michelle’s eyes welled up instantly, and she said, “I never meant to ruin your family. After Matthew passed, Caleb took care of me, and that alone meant the world to me. I know I’m not good enough for him.”
Caroline sneered, “Great. Then pack your bags and leave Chicago. Stay the hell away from my husband and my son!”
