Jonathan looked at her, feeling guilty inside. “What else could I do? He’s my son. Besides, I made a deal with him otherwise, he would’ve sued you already.”
So, the fight between Jonathan and Howard upstairs on the day she called the police was because of this.
Sophia raised her eyebrow, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Oh, should I thank you now? How thoughtful of you.”
It sounded like she was grateful, but it felt insulting. Jonathan’s chest tightened with frustration.
Sophia sneered. “I pushed him down the stairs, and he wanted to sue me. Now he’s pushing Heather and Yvette down the stairs and getting his fans to come after me. So, tell me, why can’t I sue him?”
Jonathan’s expression darkened, his irritation growing. “Making this a big issue won’t help any of us.”
Sophia scoffed and corrected him coldly, “It’s only bad for you. I really couldn’t care less. The Chandler family business isn’t my problem. Worst–case? Bankruptcy.”
“What do you want exactly?”
Jonathan thought about the chaos at home, feeling not just his hair thinning but himself aging every day.
Sophia smiled, her look sharp and determined. “Since you put it like that, I won’t hold back.”
Seeing her smile, Jonathan felt a sinking feeling.
Sure enough, Sophia spoke, “That car can be fixed, but I don’t want it. I can’t even look at it without feeling sick. After it’s repaired, I’ll leave it in the
garage.
“Since you’re covering for them, make it two million.”
Sophia’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “About my emotional compensation, I want a ruby. And don’t even think about giving me anything less.”
Jonathan dismissed it. “Ruby? You should ask your mother about that. Why would I have it?”
Sophia said, “You don’t have it, but I know where to get it. There’s an auction in two days, and the ruby I want will be there.”
Jonathan instinctively replied, “I’m busy that day.”
Sophia said, “I don’t need you to come. Just give me the money, and I’ll take care of it.”
Jonathan mentioned the hospital visit again after finalizing the terms.
Sophia interrupted, “Jonathan, those are just the regular compensation terms. As for Howard encouraging his fans to come after me, I will hold him
accountable.”
“Jonathan, I got lucky this time and avoided a disaster. But what if next time I’m not so lucky? How do we settle that then?” Her tone was calm, but it was
a clear warning.
Jonathan hadn’t thought about it like that. To him, it all seemed trivial. “What more do you want?” he asked, showing his irritation.
Sophia’s answer was sharp. “If Howard’s fans come after me again, don’t expect me to settle for just compensation.”
Jonathan frowned, realizing this was something he couldn’t promise.
Sophia smirked mockingly. “Look at the mess this has caused. Howard’s already out of control. Who knows who’ll be next?”

She gave him a meaningful look and sighed. “How did this family end up like this? The Sampsons just went bankrupt, but us Chandlers? We could be completely ruined.”
She added, “Honestly, I should save up and get out of this mess before it’s too late.”
Sophia didn’t check how Jonathan reacted. After finishing her food, she went upstairs, leaving him alone in the living room, lost in thought.
From upstairs, her voice floated down, sharp and teasing. “Jonathan, are you really sure you don’t have any secret kids hidden away?”
Jonathan looked up, ready to scold her, but his gaze met her mocking smile. Sophia said, “Let’s hope Howard’s fans behave, or I might have to turn against my own family and reveal some dirty secrets.”
Sophia suddenly changed the topic, catching Jonathan off guard. Just then, his secretary called. Feeling drained, Jonathan forced himself to focus and
deal with it.
Back in her room, Sophia wasted no time. She was determined to prove that Yvette was a curse. She couldn’t wait to see how the Chandler family would react once they were cornered.
Sophia sent a message to Ciara: [How’s the takeover of the Sampson family going?]
Ciara: [Everything’s going smoothly. I’ll speed things up–they won’t be able to recover.]
Sophia knew she was halfway to her goal–the Sampson family was bankrupt and disgraced. Now, all that was left was to completely crush them and make sure they stayed down for good.
Seeing the reply, Sophia smiled and texted: [I heard they still have a house. I want them out on the streets, with nothing left.]
Ciara: [Got it.]
Sophia set her phone down, a cold smile on her face.
Sophia had heard that Kevin was still recovering from his head injury and that the Sampson family hadn’t contacted Yvette.
That just wouldn’t do. She wanted to watch others suffer.
During this time, Kevin wasn’t just healing; he was also looking for work. Unfortunately, no matter where he applied–big companies or small ones–no one wanted to hire him.
Once the golden boy everyone admired, Kevin had fallen so far that he couldn’t even find a basic job. The judgmental stares he faced chipped away at his pride, leaving him utterly defeated.
Eventually, he gave up entirely, falling into despair. The once high–spirited heir of the Sampson family was now just a shadow of who he used to be.
He spent his days lying in their last remaining asset–a small apartment. For Kevin, it was a hiding place from the world, but for his mother, who had once lived in large mansions, it was unbearable.
“Kevin, guess what? I’ve got great news.” Monica’s voice was full of glee. Though she hadn’t gone to provoke the Chandler family, she had been closely watching their troubles.
Monica said, “Yvette fell down the stairs and ended up in the hospital. She deserves that.”
Monica was genuinely delighted. After all the kindness she had shown Yvette, Yvette had repaid her by ruining her family. Monica believed Yvette deserved every bit of her suffering.
Kevin, who had been lying around like a lifeless body, suddenly sat up. Grabbing his mother’s hand, he demanded, “Yvette’s hurt? Which hospital is she

His face was thin, his hair greasy, and his disheveled look was made worse by the scruffy beard growing on his chin. Days of job hunting under the hot sun had left him looking more like a beggar than the proud heir he once was.
Monica felt a chill. Her voice turned sharp as she snapped, “After everything she’s done to us, you still care about her?”
Her eyes, red with anger and resentment, brimmed with regret. “I should’ve kicked her out the moment she stepped into our house.”
Kévin frowned and retorted, “Mom, I’ve told you before–it’s not Yvette’s fault. She didn’t do anything wrong.” As he spoke, he put on his shoes and went for the door.
Seeing this, Monica became furious. She slapped him hard across the face, her voice trembling with despair as she shouted, “You’ve been bewitched by her. I shouldn’t have let her into the family. She should’ve just died.”
“If you leave now, don’t bother calling me Mom ever again,” she screamed, her voice cracking with desperation, Deep down, she still hoped he wouldn’t go, but Kevin didn’t hesitate–he left without a glance back.
“Kevin, are you really abandoning your mother?” Watching her son walk away felt like a knife twisting in her heart, leaving her feeling raw and broken. Kevin didn’t turn back, thinking his mother would forgive him as she always did. But he didn’t realize that after he left, the debt collectors had arrived.
