Chapter 51

Following you? His deep voice sent an unwelcome shiver down my spine

When I glanced back, he was much closer than I expected, moving toward me with a deceptively casual stance that still radiated Alpha energy. Ha mes had faded from bloodred back to steel blue, but they held that dangerous wolflike gleam I d chce found in captivating

What do you want?I demanded, hating how Astrid stirred at his proximity. Why are you tracking me?”

He gave me a cold look that somehow still burned. Who’s following you? Don’t be so selfimportant. Im going to my room.”

Tristan jerked his chin toward a door just steps beyond mine. I blinked in confusion

Your room? But the Alpha’s master suite is downstairs. This is the second floor.”

I don’t want that room, he replied curtly

I felt my back press against the wall, suddenly aware I was trapped between his body and the cold surface behind me. Though Tristan hadn’t touched me, his very presence formed an invisible wall around me

Now he stood only inches away, close enough that I could feel his breath caress my cheek. His eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that was almost manicnot anger, but something more primal and far more dangerous

My breathing quickened, my heart raced, and treacherous heat spread through my body. I could feel his Alpha presence toying with my senses, coaxing my wolf to submit to him

Our gazes intertwined, and a small sound escaped from deep in my throatnot a protest, but something between a sigh and a soft moan. The sound seemed to trigger something in him; he moved closer until our bodies nearly touched

Then, just when I thought he mightwhat? Kiss me? Threaten me?-he suddenly pulled back, his expression becoming unreadable

Goodnight, Lysandra,he said in an almost mocking tone before smoothly sliding away and walking toward his door

I stood there, breathing unsteadily, feeling as if I’d been doused with cold water. His sudden retreat left me with an inexplicable sense of loss that only made me angrier

He opened his door but paused before entering, looking back at me one last time. Sweet dreams,he said with a cold smile

He entered his room and slammed the door shut, the sound echoing through the empty hallway, making me flinch

I stood frozen, processing what had just happened. So he wasn’t watching me? I’d jumped to conclusions, assuming the worst. But why would an Alpha sleep in the guest quarters instead of the master suite? It made no sense

Taking a deep breath, I stepped into my own room, only to hear a soft voice behind me

Miss.”

I turned to find the young maid from earlier, holding a/silver tray with a water pitcher and glass. She slipped past me, setting it on the bedside table before leaving with a silent bow

Back in my room, I gulped down the water the maid had brought, but the cool liquid did nothing to extinguish the heat burning beneath my skin. I collapsed onto the edge of the bed, burying my face in my hands

Damn it, damn it, damn it,I cursed under my breath, my fingertips unconsciously sliding to my neck, touching the spot where his mark had once been. Though the mark was long gone, the area still warmed whenever Tristan was near, as if my body remembered belonging to him

Astrid restlessly prowled inside me, her yearning intertwining with my own desire, creating a heat I couldn’t ignore. He’s just on the other side of the wall, she whispered, our mate is so close…
