I was the first to break eye contact, looking down and blinking rapidly to clear my vision.
if eating meant he would let me leave, then I’d finish the meal and go directly back to Fenris and Isolde before leaving pack territory. The sooner i escached. this man who unsettled both my body and mind, the better.

I lifted my spoon and began eating silently, suddenly hyperaware of my lips as they closed around each bite. Tristan’s gaze never wavered, following the utensil’s path from plate to mouth and back.
A subtle movement caught my eye. Tristan had lit a cigarette, the smoke curling lazily above the table between us.
When he exhaled, his lips formed a subtle curve that drew my attention. I found myself staring at the mouth that had once claimed every part of me.
I focused on my food instead, chewing angrily, unaware that my cheeks puffed slightly with the effort, creating an image that Tristan seemed to find fascinating.
Something flickered in his eyes–a look I recognized from our bedroom years ago–making my hand tremble slightly around the spoon.
I’m not obeying him, I told myself firmly. I’m eating because I’m hungry, not because he told me to.
When I finished, I reached for my water glass with deliberate nonchalance, acting as if he weren’t even there.
“Who’s the father of your children? Tristan asked suddenly. “Kieran?” His voice was barely above a whisper, but sharp as a blade.
The question caught me mid–sip. Water spilled from my mouth, trickling down my chin and onto my collarbone. Tristan’s eyes followed that droplet with terrifying intensity.
As it disappeared beneath my collar, something dangerous flashed in his gaze–hunger, as if he wanted to follow that water droplet’s path with his tongue.
I coughed, lightly touching my chest, unaware that the gesture emphasized the curve of my breasts beneath my blouse.
“What’s wrong?” Tristan asked, voice cold as ice. “Does the question make you uncomfortable? Did you betray our marriage vows?” He leaned forward slightly, shoulders bunching under his jacket.
His frigid tone made me cough harder, tears forming at the corners of my eyes. The hint of vulnerability seemed to ignite something in him–a possessive gleam that spoke of marking and claiming.
I drained my water glass in one long swallow, trying to soothe my throat, then slammed it down on the table. I glared at Tristan while mentally silencing Astrid’s ridiculous commentary.
Should I provoke him further? Let my purple wolf rise to the surface? Would that make me feel better?
He deserved nothing from me. His Alpha status and power only made him more arrogant, more entitled.
Tristan exhaled smoke while watching me, fingers drumming lightly on the table in a rhythm that somehow matched my heartbeat.
“You don’t need to worry about their father,‘ I said finally, rising to my feet. “It isn’t you.”
I could see the fury burning in his eyes, his wolf pushing against his control.
“I came here for your father,‘ I reminded him. “I’ll be returning to Moonshade tonight.”
If my parents knew what their so–called favorite daughter–in–law did during those two years, they would despise you,‘ he said, voice barely controlled.
I couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity/Alpha Tristan, you need to forget about me. I’m not your Luna anymore.”
