I stared at her, suddenly aware of how little I felt at her proximity. No quickening pulse. No desire,
My eyes caught on the scar marring her right arm the permanent reminder of how she’d saved my life. The sight always stopped me from pushing her away, from severing our connection entirely.
She wrapped her arms around my waist, burying her face against my chest, “You have no idea, Tristan,” she whimpered, voice breaking. “Lysandra’s bullying me. That post she made has humiliated me in front of the entire Pack. Please, do something to stop her.”
I stood rigid in her embrace, my thoughts elsewhere, Lysandra was happily living her life with another man. Raising those children with him playing father, While Selene had been my lifeline, my savior.

“What’s wrong?” Selene’s voice dropped to a vulnerable whisper. “Why don’t you touch me anymore?”
I turned away, unable to face her. “It’s late. You should go. My driver will take you home.”

She stood motionless for several heartbeats before I heard her collect her purse. The door clicked shut behind her with finality.
Alone again, I grabbed the bottle of whiskey from the bar, drinking directly from it. The burn in my throat did nothing to dull the chaos in my mind.
I reached out through the mind link. Varian. My apartment. Now.
Ten minutes later, he arrived, eyebrows rising at the sight of me drinking straight from the bottle.
“You called, Alpha?”
I nodded once, not bothering to hide the blood–red glow that had overtaken my eyes entirely. My voice emerged as a dangerous rasp.
“Find out everything about Lysandra and those twins. Especially their age. And who their father is.”
