Chapter 159
I stared at him, momentarily stunned into silence. How had he even known what was happening in this private room? Had he been eavesdropping?.
Alaric shot to his feet, wine glass forgotten. “Tristan Wolfbane, this has nothing to do with you. Please leave. This is a private conversation.”
Alpha Kael’s confusion was evident as his eyes darted between me and Tristan. “Mark? What mark?”
Something inside me snapped. I stood abruptly, knocking into the table. My wine glass toppled, crimson liquid spilling across the pristine tablecloth like blood.
“Enough!” My voice trembled with barely contained fury. “I’ve had it with being treated like some object to be traded!
All three men turned to me, identical expressions of surprise on their faces. I’d never raised my voice like this in public, especially not to Alphas, but I was beyond caring.
“Tristan, I don’t belong to you. I removed your mark years ago.” I turned to Alpha Kael, who seemed taken aback by my outburst. “And Alpha Kael, I’m flattered, but I won’t accept your proposal. I am not anyone’s prize or political pawn.*
Silence engulfed the room. Alaric’s mouth hung open slightly. Alpha Kael’s expression was unreadable. But it was Tristan’s reaction that caught me off guard–a flash of something that looked almost like approval before his mask slipped back into
place.
“I don’t know where you got this mistaken notion that my mark can be easily removed,” Tristan’s voice dropped
dangerously, “but that’s not the point tonight.”
I knew exactly what he meant. He was referring to our mate bond–the spiritual connection that transcended physical
marks. But what did that matter? A mate bond without love was meaningless, just scattered sand in the wind. Without
marking, no real bond could form anyway.
Tristan turned to Alpha Kael, his posture deceptively relaxed. “I’m curious, Alpha Kael, what makes you so interested in a marriage alliance with the Ravencroft family?”
“My interest in her is purely personal,” Alpha Kael replied smoothly. “Unlike some. Alphas, I appreciate her abilities and
intelligence.”
Tristan’s lips curved into a cold smile. “Is that so? Then why have you been collecting information about the Ravencroft family history? And Lysandra’s preferences?”
Both Alaric and I turned to Alpha Kael, who suddenly looked uncomfortable. His fingers tightened around his fork.
“Be careful of your new ally, Lysandra.” Tristan’s warning hung in the air. “Some people’s interest in you goes far beyond what appears on the surface.”
His eyes met mine one last time before he turned to leave. The look he gave me was impossible to decipher–a strange
mixture of concern, possessiveness, and something else I couldn’t name
After Tristan’s departure, an awkward silence stretched across the dining room. The candles flickered, casting dancing shadows over Alpha Kael’s face as he carefully set down his cutlery.

“Tristan Wolfbane always spreads lies, Alpha Kael finally said. “I simply fell for Lysandra at first sight and wanted to k more about her.”
Alaric’s eyes narrowed slightly. “My sister isn’t looking to get married. She has dreams to fulfill. She wants to live fully first. We’ll consider the matter again later.” He paused, then added firmly, “Besides, my sister already has a boyfriend
I noticed Alpha Kael looked offended by this dismissal. His jaw tightened, and something cold flashed across his eyes before disappearing.
“Alaric!” I couldn’t keep the exasperation from my voice. “How many times do you plan to make decisions for me? I want to control my own love life!”
“I need some space,” I said, standing up again. “Tonight has been… overwhelming.”
Without waiting for a response, I grabbed my purse and headed for the door. Neither Alaric nor Alpha Kael tried to stop
- me.
Outside, the night air felt blessedly cool against my flushed skin. I wandered into a small park adjacent to the restaurant, needing to clear my head before returning home.
I found a secluded path lined with silver birch trees, their pale bark glowing softly in the moonlight. The path curved around a small ornamental lake, its surface a perfect mirror reflecting the stars above.
My emotions had reached a breaking point. I appreciated my brother’s protection, but was it excessive? Tristan’s cold eyes as I spat blood during our mark removal ceremony still haunted me. The memory of his complete detachment as I suffered through the ritual made my stomach clench. Why was he now insisting I was his marked Luna?
And Alpha Kael… when he looked at me, there was no love in his eyes, not like Tristan’s when-
Wait, what was I saying? Tristan had never looked at me with love. Not once during our entire marriage.
The soft crunch of footsteps behind me broke through my thoughts. I turned, expecting to see Alaric or perhaps a park security guard.
Instead, I found myself staring into a face I recognized instantly–a face now marred by jagged scars that hadn’t been
there before.
“You” I started.
“The naked beauty from the hot springs. What a fortunate coincidence.” The rogue wolf’s face twisted into an ugly sneer.
I glanced around, suddenly aware of how vulnerable I was. This restaurant was at the very edge of our territory, in the neutral zone between packs where security was minimal. Most wolves respected territorial boundaries enough that we rarely posted guards in these commercial areas. A critical oversight, it seemed.
“How did you find me?” I demanded, backing away slowly.
He chuckled. “We’ve been watching you for days. After our… encounter at the springs, we knew you’d eventually leave your pack’s central territory. We just had to be patient.”
‘You’re the one from the springs- I’d barely formed the words when a hand clamped over my moutl smelling cloth pressed against my face.
