I’d been with Chris Palmer for eight years.
From a mercenary, I became his personal bodyguard, his housekeeper, and eventually, his lover.
All because I agreed to accompany his impulsive childhood sweetheart on a jungle adventure
overseas.
We were attacked by a three–meter–tall savage.
Chris didn’t even blink before choosing to leave me behind and board a plane–one that could only carry two people–with Lillian Thompson.
“You’re tough, you can hold them off for a while. Lillian’s terrified, she needs to get out of here first.”
Later, when I was being chased nonstop by that wild creature, crying and begging for help, I
called Chris.
“Enough already. Lillian and I are planning our wedding. If you’re gonna mess with us, at least come up with a better excuse. You’re a mercenary, how would some brainless beast even beat you?”
It wasn’t until two months later, when Lillian got pregnant, that Chris finally came to take me
home.
But when he saw me, completely out of my mind, willingly submitting beneath that savage, he went completely mad.

That phone, which hadn’t had a signal for months, finally caught a faint bar.
I hid under a slope, listening to the heavy footsteps of the creature above.

Chapter 1
I didn’t even dare to breathe as I quickly dialed Chris’s number.

Three days ago, just because Lillian said, “Chris, I’m scared,” he took her and left without hesitation, leaving me behind in this endless jungle, alone, and being hunted by that savage.
“Aren’t you a mercenary? Just hold them off for a bit, it’s no big deal. Lillian’s different, she was crying, she was terrified.”
That’s what he said. Told me to hold out for a while. But that “while” turned into three whole days.
By now, I hadn’t had a drop of water. The past two days of being chased had completely drained my body. The only hope I had left was Chris.
My phone was down to just two percent battery, and after countless failed attempts, the call finally connected.
For the first time in days, I felt a flicker of hope. I whispered into the phone, “Help me, Chris… That savage, he’s in heat. I’m scared…”
It was the first time I’d ever said something like that to Chris, but he didn’t answer.
Lillian did.
“Chris, does Willette really hate me that much? She can’t even let us get married in peace? I just want a home, is that really so hard? If Willette’s not okay with it, then fine, we won’t get married today.”
I froze. So, they were getting married today? What about me, the one who’d been with Chris for eight years?
Lillian sounded like she was about to cry. And just like that, Chris snapped.
“Willette Allison, you act like some butch tomboy, and now you’re scared? If you’re trying to stir up drama, at least come up with a better excuse. Scared? That brain–dead savage couldn’t, possibly take down a battle–hardened mercenary like you.”
