Wasn’t he taking this role too seriously? Indeed, successful people succeed at everything they do.
Out of respect for her boss, after a brief internal struggle, Clarissa obediently said, “Alright then,
thank you.”
Afraid of keeping him waiting, she hurried to the underground parking garage.
Theodore’s parking spot was easy to find. The black Maybach was parked in its designated space, with the driver’s side window half–lowered. Though the lighting in the underground garage was dim, the entire car seemed to glow with its own light.
Clarissa was used to Theodore exuding such charm.
But… for such a charming person to suddenly become her husband felt very strange.
Clarissa didn’t know how long it would take to adjust to this relationship. She carefully looked
around, and after making sure no one was there, she jogged toward Theodore’s car.
She opened the passenger door and quickly got in.
“Are you so afraid of others discovering our relationship?” Theodore asked with a faint smile from
the driver’s seat.
“Office romances are taboo… although ours is a contract marriage, not a real romantic relationship
leading to marriage.”
In Clarissa’s view, this was indeed a relationship that couldn’t be made public. She could only say,
“You’re the boss, so it’s better to lead by example. I’m afraid if this gets out, it might affect you.”
If possible, she hoped their relationship could remain completely hidden until the end of the
contract.
Or until he grew tired, weary, regretful, and wanted a divorce.
Theodore didn’t say much, just started the car.
Not long after getting in the car, Clarissa couldn’t help but yawn, her eyelids fighting to stay open,

but she still tried to stay awake.
“Sleep if you’re tired.”
Clarissa murmured an agreement. When busy earlier, she hadn’t had time or energy to think about other things, but now that she had a moment of rest, she was so exhausted she just wanted to close her eyes and sleep.
Theodore’s car had a faint scent of agarwood that felt very comfortable.
In this peaceful atmosphere, Clarissa quickly fell asleep.
Theodore drove very smoothly the whole way. When they arrived at her apartment building, seeing her sound asleep, he didn’t wake her.
He just slightly turned his gaze, his eyes falling on her fair, delicate face.
After looking at her for who knows how long, Clarissa suddenly woke up.
Before she could say anything like “sorry,” “trouble,” or “thank you,” Theodore spoke first: “Go rest now. I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 10 AM to go to the registry office, is that okay?”
“Tomorrow?” Clarissa belatedly realized, “Tomorrow is Saturday, is the registry office open? And shouldn’t I meet your family first? I think we should make sure they approve, otherwise there’s no point in getting married.”
After all, he was marrying her just to appease his family, so their opinions should be the priority.
If it wasn’t suitable, they could still call off the marriage. Clarissa thought optimistically.
Theodore looked at her without saying anything. He thought, if he wasn’t afraid his sudden aggressiveness might scare her, they could have gotten the marriage certificate tonight.
“I have no issues, my family has no issues, and I’ve dealt with the registry office so there are no issues there. You…”
Clarissa listened to his words, her voice weakening, but she still forced herself to say, “I… have no issues either.”

“Good.”
“Mr. Ashford, please be careful on your way back.”
After saying this, Clarissa took the umbrella Theodore handed her, and quickly disappeared into the
snowy night.
Theodore sat in the car and lit a cigarette, looking up.
In an apartment on the 16th floor, a few lights turned on.
Forty minutes later, they went out one by one.
Theodore closed his eyes, his Adam’s apple moving slightly.
The cold air of the snowy night blew into the car through the window, but he seemed oblivious to it.
His expression remained normal as his well–defined hand slowly gripped the steering wheel,
suppressing a long–forgotten heat and passion in his heart.
The next day, Clarissa appeared in Theodore’s car precisely on time.
A bouquet of bright red roses lay on the passenger seat.
Clarissa was somewhat surprised by the flawlessness of his “acting.”
‘Beautiful flowers,” she said, holding the bouquet and starting to “play along.”
