Chapter 10
The two of them reached the civil affairs hall without any obstacles.
Standing on the white marble steps in front of the entrance, Clarissa, who was usually very composed emotionally, suddenly took a deep breath.
The marriage registration process was simple. The entire procedure took only about ten minutes.
Soon, the marriage certificate was in Clarissa’s hands. Their names were written side by side in cursive English on thick white cotton paper, with a gold–stamped seal in the bottom right corner.
“Would you like to take a photo?” the staff member asked enthusiastically.
Clarissa was about to decline, but Theodore had already handed his phone to the staff member: “Thank you.”
Thinking he wanted a photo to show his family, Clarissa immediately cooperated and stood with
him in front of the camera..
Glancing at the man beside her, dressed in a black custom–made suit with a commanding presence, Clarissa silently took off her creamy white fluffy long coat.
Underneath, she wore a moonlight–white silk long dress. The satin material was soft and
body–hugging, outlining her perfect figure. The hem was embroidered with silver wave patterns,
making her look like a piece of pure, clean jade.
Theodore instinctively looked over, and once he did, his gaze remained fixed on her. That look seemed to pull her into his eyes.
Clarissa hastily explained, “Since today is rather formal, I didn’t want to embarrass you…”
Knowing they were coming for such an unusual event today, she had dressed up specially before leaving.
Clarissa was well aware of Theodore’s style.
She had been working at Aurexon Group for three years, and counting from their first meeting at the

university celebration in her sophomore year, Clarissa had known Theodore for nearly six years. In those six years, Clarissa had never seen this man look even slightly disheveled.
She had often wondered what kind of glamorous person would be fit to stand by his side.
Thinking of this, Clarissa added, “Mr. Ashford, please rest assured! During our marriage agreement period, I will be mindful of my image and try not to create any scandals for you.”
That way, when the marriage ended, she wouldn’t leave too much of a stain on him.
Theodore withdrew his gaze from her and spoke in a deep voice: “You don’t need to do anything for
my sake. Just do what makes you happy.”
Clarissa opened her mouth, wanting to say something. But in the end, she said nothing.
Leaving the civil affairs hall, Clarissa looked at the unfamiliar direction the car was heading.
Theodore seemed to sense her question and said naturally, “Taking you to my place.”
Clarissa instinctively asked, “What for?”
“You’ll need to move in eventually. Today you can have a look first.”
“Move in?”
Seeing Clarissa’s confusion, Theodore raised an eyebrow slightly; “Surely you’re not thinking of living separately after marriage?”
Clarissa thought, if two people lived in different places after getting married and his family found
out, it would definitely arouse suspicion.
Since they had formally decided to start this contract marriage, they should take it seriously.
Besides, he had already agreed that they wouldn’t have to fulfill marital duties, so moving in with him would be like having a roommate. And… it would save her over three thousand dollars in

monthly rent.
So, Clarissa rationally agreed, “Okay, I’ll go back and pack up in the next couple of days when I have
time.”
Theodore had many residences in Los Angeles. The one he brought Clarissa to was not far from the
company.
It was a spacious flat spanning several hundred square meters, located in a high–rise in Los Angeles’s prime central location where real estate was extremely valuable. Looking out from the floor–to–ceiling windows, one could see the beautiful river view.
“There’s no live–in housekeeper, but someone comes every day to cook and clean,” Theodore
explained.
Clarissa liked quiet solitude, so hearing Theodore say this made her feel relieved.
Whether it was Clarissa’s imagination or not, in less than a day, getting along with Theodore was… much more comfortable and natural than she had imagined.
