Chapter 7
After leaving the bridal shop that day, Edward never returned home.
That house was filled with countless memories of him and me over the years.
Just the thought of going back and facing those memories made him feel an indescribable pain
Out of sight, out of mind, he simply followed Olive back to her place.
Their relationship was sensitive and had to be kept secret. If exposed, the consequences would be disastrous.
They had to personally take care of their child and dared not hire a nanny.
But Edward’s previous life was all carefully managed by me. Meals served on time and clothes prepared without effort. Now he couldn’t even take care of himself, let alone look after a child.
He was often so busy and flustered that Olive’s complaints grew more frequent.
In just two short days, Olive started giving him all kinds of attitude and she kept swiping his card to buy a bunch of luxury baby items and even a limited edition sports car.
Jason kept his word and acted that very night, directly outbidding and snatching up the plot of land in West City.
This project was supposed to be a major source of cash flow for the Hall Family in the second half of the year. It was practically theirs.
Now, without this project, Edward must secure a new project within a month, or their cash flow would be on the brink of collapse.
At such a critical time, looking at the long list of bills, Edward couldn’t help but feel irritable and
anxious.
Olive, feeling wronged, said, “Edward, I gave birth to your child with all my effort. Can’t I buy a few things? Since when have you become so stingy?”
Stingy? All he knew was that I had always lived frugally and never spent money recklessly. Edward suddenly found himself missing me. That night, the baby cried nonstop, but Olive just tossed the child to him and turned away to sleep soundly in another room.
Edward held the baby all night, unable to sleep as he tried to soothe the child.
He looked haggard, sitting in the living room with the TV on.
The screen showed Jason giving an interview, publicly announcing his relationship with me to the entire city.
Edward stood there stunned, until the baby in his arms woke up and started crying again, finally snapping him back to reality.
He shoved the child into Olive’s arms and rushed out of the house.
He floored the accelerator, running red lights all the way back to the home he once shared with
- me.
Everything in the house was intact, but my presence was nowhere to be found.
I had never come back at all.
Edward stared at the spacious living room, recalling my unusual behavior these past few days. My words echoed in his mind repeatedly,
“Let’s break up,
“Let’s call off the engagement.”
At that moment, Edward finally realized I wasn’t joking with him. I really intended to leave him.
But he thought, what did our past feelings mean then? Wasn’t I supposed to love him the most? How could I just walk away?
Frantically, Edward pulled out his phone and kept sending messages to me.
But I didn’t reply even once, leaving him alone, panic–stricken over her departure.
It wasn’t until this moment that he realized how terribly wrong he had been. He had squandered my genuine love and trust.
But he couldn’t let me marry Jason. As long as he sincerely admitted his mistakes, he was sure would surely forgive him.
