My heart twisted with a sharp, gut–wrenching pain. For the first time, I yelled at Julian.
“Where?! Didn’t you know the doctor said it would be hard for me to get pregnant again,
Julian?!”
A flicker of hesitation crossed Julian’s eyes, but then his resolve hardened. “Mia, it’s just
one child.”
Just one child? He hadn’t been with me for years, and Caleb was my only hope. He was
the hope of my entire life.
Perhaps I was distracted, because Caleb struggled free from my embrace. He shoved me
