Lena’s face betrayed a flash of guilt as she stammered:
I… I just gathered some information, that’s all.”
It’s not exactly a secret. Anyone who asks would know about it.”
She bit her lip, gazing at David with glistening eyes:
David, are you really angry over something so trivial?”
David didn’t look at her. He knelt down, trying to embrace me.
I pushed him away with all my strength:
“Don’t… don’t touch me. It’s too dirty. Please don’t touch me!”
His hand hung in the air before dropping in defeat.
Later, Maya and Richard came to take me away.
As I walked out the door, with my back to David, I said:
Tomorrow morning, ten o’clock, at the courthouse entrance.”
He started to say something, but I immediately cut him off:
‘By the way, when I came upstairs to find you that night, my phone camera was recording.”
Who knows what interesting footage it might have captured.”
The door closed behind me, and inside, Lena’s hurt sobbing began.
Walking out of the residential area, Lena’s words still echoed in my mind.
All strength seemed to drain from my body, and I finally collapsed into Maya’s arms.

My parents said they were taking me to Chicago for vacation.
The day before departure, I went to eat shaved ice with David.
During those two hours I was away, my father’s mistress showed up.
Supporting her visibly pregnant belly, she told my mother that she had been with my father for several years.
Now pregnant, she wanted legitimacy for herself and her unborn child.
My mother, who already suffered from depression, had an emotional breakdown at this news.
She grabbed a kitchen knife, intending to harm herself.
My father tried to stop her and accidentally had his major artery slashed.
As he collapsed, my mother lay on top of him, laughing and crying hysterically before cutting her
own throat.
David and I had just returned from outside. He saw the scene first and immediately turned to cover
my eyes.
But I still saw it.
They lay in the center of the living room, surrounded by half–packed suitcases.
Crimson blood flowed from their bodies, spreading all the way to my feet.
My innocence and happiness completely shattered.
For years, I couldn’t escape that shadow.
David stayed by my side throughout.
He said I was his first love and would be his only one.

courthouse, I finally felt relief–like a boulder that had been pressing on my heart for years had been
lifted.
As we walked out of the gray judicial building housing the family court, David spoke softly:
“I never told Lena anything about you.”
“She heard it from mutual friends, and those details were her own fabrications and additions.”
“I never disliked you either. You were my first love, and my last… That wasn’t a lie.”
“Stop making me sick, David.”
I couldn’t help but laugh, full of sarcasmi.
“David, do you still think you’re some kind of romantic hero?”
“Cheating on me while ‘loving‘ me–does that make you less despicable?”
“Or have you played the role of faithful husband for so long that you can’t distinguish between
acting and reality?”
“I wasn’t acting. I truly-”
“Enough, David! Stay away from me. Whether you love me or not doesn’t matter anymore!”
‘Because your ‘love‘ isn’t worth mentioning.”
He fell silent, his pupils hiding a bottomless despair.
‘When the cooling–off period ends, don’t forget to come back and sign the final documents. Richard
has already drafted the agreement.”
With that, I turned and walked away without looking back.
