Chapter 2
I smiled as I said goodbye to David.
The moment I turned away from the car, my heart plummeted to rock bottom.
Despite being bathed in warm sunshine, I felt trapped in the depths of winter.
The man I’d loved for over a decade was having an affair.
It had been going on for months at least.
And I’d noticed nothing.
After finishing my work, I asked my boss for half a day off and took a taxi to David’s law firm.
Not to find him, but his car.
Using the spare key, I opened his car door and checked the dashcam.
The playback interface was suspiciously clean.
Only this morning’s footage remained–he hadn’t had time to delete it yet.
After dropping me at the office, David received a call from his longtime friend.
“Having a spat with your mistress?”
“What happened?”
“She couldn’t reach you, so she called me instead.”
David replied coolly:
“I told her not to disturb Claire. This morning, while I was seeing Claire off, she deliberately
appeared in front of us.”
The person on the other end sounded exasperated:
“What are you thinking? If you don’t want Claire to find out, why let your affair partner move into

the apartment upstairs?”
David was silent for a moment before saying softly:
“Claire injured her leg before. She needed someone around.”
“I… didn’t trust anyone else to take care of her.”
His friend sighed:
“I don’t understand you. You know how much Claire was hurt by what happened with her parents, yet you still… Anyway, just be careful.”
“Yeah, I know.”
I watched all the footage in silence.
I called David to tell him I’d be staying at my friend Maya’s place tonight and that he shouldn’t pick
me up after work.
He pleaded to drop me off, but I refused.
David’s voice carried a barely perceptible hint of disappointment:
“Why not?”
“Baby, don’t you need me anymore?”
“I’ll just drop you off and leave. I won’t disturb you two.”
“…I’ve already arranged for Maya to pick me up.‘
“Then promise you’ll come home early. I can’t sleep without you beside me.”
My chest tightened. Fighting back the sting in my nose, I softly agreed.
Before getting out of his car, I had hidden a voice recorder inside.
David’s car didn’t return to the apartment until midnight.
The passenger door opened, and a girl stepped out.

She gently grabbed David’s sleeve and looked up, saying something to him.
Suddenly, David pulled her forcefully into his arms. They kissed against the car door, and the girl boldly slipped her hand into David’s belt. He tensed for a moment before picking her up and carrying her into the apartment building.
I stood there quietly, my heart clutched by an invisible hand, unable to breathe.
I opened the car door.
Everything inside was immaculate, without a trace of wrongdoing.
I retrieved the voice recorder I’d hidden that afternoon and pressed play.
After work, David had called the girl, telling her to wait at the school gate.
Once she got in the car, David asked:
“What would you like to eat later?”
The girl’s voice was sweet and cloying:
“I want to eat you first!”
“I’m driving. Stop it.”
“David, I’m wearing the lingerie you bought me. Look, isn’t it pretty?”
“It’s pretty.”
“No fair, you’re just saying that. You didn’t even look properly!”
David sounded somewhat helpless:
“I’m driving!”
The girl whined playfully:
“Then find somewhere to pull over. I’ve been thinking about you all day, and you won’t even look at me properly!”
David said nothing.

Soon after, the car stopped.
With a soft click, David’s belt buckle was undone.
The girl’s bra was roughly pulled off by the man. Her full breasts trembled in the air.
The man bit her crimson,nipple. The girl couldn’t help but cry out.
After some static, she was sitting naked on his lap.
“David, your body seems to miss me more.” The girl’s seductive voice rang out.
David remained silent.
Only their passionate breathing intertwined.
The girl sobbed incoherently:
“I’m sorry, David. I won’t appear in front of your wife again…”
“I’ll be good. Please don’t ignore me anymore, okay?”
David’s usually cool voice had grown husky:
“Okay.”
