I fell in love with Theodore Vale at first sight.
It was just because he smiled at me during a school debate:
–
“Opposing debater, please answer directly – yes or no.”
He was tall and handsome. I stupidly replied: “Opposing debåter, yes, I like you.”
The entire venue erupted in jeers.
But Theodore Vale frowned in disgust:
“I don’t like girls who are too forward.”
From then on, I became the laughingstock of the entire school – Theodore Vale’s lapdog.
I hastily tied up my uneven hair, barely covering the shaved traces.
I silently followed Theodore Vale to the Vale family estate.
In the car, my phone vibrated.
Dorian Blackwell sent a message:
“Wife, I’m all ready. I’ll give you the most romantic wedding in the world!”
I couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
Dorian Blackwell was the only son of the Blackwell family. Weak and sickly as a child, he was sent to live with my grandfather’s family for twenty years.
He grew up with me, and although we weren’t blood–related, I still had to call him uncle.
Later, when he grew up, he managed the Blackwell family business brilliantly, becoming Manchester’s richest man.
I never imagined when this little uncle had developed feelings for me. After all, with our generational difference, I
always felt it was an insurmountable barrier.
Until the day we got our marriage certificate, seeing him so nervous he was walking with the same arm and leg forward.
I suddenly thought, perhaps, we could give it a try?
Theodore Vale suddenly turned to look me over, his gaze lingering on my hair for a few seconds: “Your hair looks

decent tied up like that.”
This was probably the highest praise he’d given me in all these years.
In the past, I would have been so happy I couldn’t sleep all night.
But now, my heart couldn’t even muster a ripple.
Irene gently agreed:
“Sister–in–law, don’t copy me. Be brave and be yourself that’s when you’re most beautiful.”
I kept my head down scrolling through my phone, not responding.
“Clara Ellison!” Theodore Vale suddenly slapped the seat.
“Sister–in–law complimented you at least say thank you! Mom and Dad are already dissatisfied with you. If you act like this in front of them later, don’t expect to marry into the Vale family…”
“Should I get out of the car now?” I interrupted him. “To save them the trouble of getting angry?”
The car fell deadly silent.
Theodore Vale’s face was livid, and he didn’t speak again until we reached the estate.
As soon as I stepped through the Vale family estate threshold, my mother–in–law coldly scolded:
“Clara Ellison, don’t you know to greet your elders when entering?”
I completely ignored her. She raised her hand to slap me, but was sternly stopped by Old Vale:
“Enough! Theodore said you’re pregnant and want Irene to take care of you? What nerve!”
“I don’t care.” I shrugged indifferently.
Theodore Vale’s eyes instantly turned frighteningly cold.
Old Vale turned to Irene:
“The hospital just called. Ronan shows signs of waking up. Irene must stay with him.”
Irene’s body swayed violently:
“Impossible. Ronan is clearly…”
Theodore Vale immediately supported her, his brow furrowed:
“Didn’t the doctor say my brother had no possibility of waking up? How could this be?”

Old Vale raised his hand to wipe his reddened eyes:
‘Ronan lost his parents young. After we adopted him, he was always outstanding, managing the company perfectly. This child has had a hard life. If it weren’t for him desperately protecting you during that car accident…”
His voice choked up:
‘Now finally, finally he’s going to wake up.”
When he recovers, the company will be returned to him. You’re too conservative in your approach. The Vale family
needs to reach higher levels.”
Theodore Vale nodded woodenly, walking out in a daze.
rene immediately lost her support and collapsed to the ground.
My mother–in–law suddenly called out to him:
The Blackwell family’s young master is having his wedding in three days. Remember to attend on time and
network more.”
She glanced at me sideways:
You remember to dress appropriately! Don’t embarrass the Vale family with that messy hair.”
obediently replied: “Yes, Auntie.”
‘No manners!” My mother–in–law immediately darkened her face. “Still won’t call me Mom?!”
ignored her and turned to leave.
Outside, Theodore Vale drove away in a cloud of dust.
Obviously rushing to the company to strategize – how could he willingly hand over power to the adopted brother
he’d always been jealous of?
I took out my phone and sent my mother–in–law the photo I’d taken at the County Clerk’s Office of Irene’s abortion surgery record.
At the same time, I called Dorian Blackwell:
‘Little uncle, how are the wedding preparations going?”
