Chapter 4
Irene was stunned, then cried even louder.
Theodore Vale’s face darkened as he dragged me into the bathroom.
He grabbed the razor from the vanity and aimed it at my head:
“Sister–in–law was so upset by you that she cut the hair she’d grown for ten years. Since you show no remorse, you should pay the same price!”
My heart trembled – he was going to shave my head?
I struggled desperately but he twisted my arms behind my back and pressed me against the wall, the razor buzzing above my head.
“Theodore Vale, you’re insane! Let me go!”
But he spoke coldly: “You forced me to do this.”
Watching helplessly as strands of hair fell to the floor, tears streamed down my face as I begged with a trembling
voice:
“Theodore Vale, please, I’ll apologize to her, I’ll apologize properly…”
Theodore Vale suddenly stopped and threw me aside like discarding something dirty:
“Why are you crying? It’s just some hair – it’ll grow back!”
Looking at my ridiculous appearance in the mirror.
Messy, uneven hair, swollen red eyes – I looked like a clown.
Irene hypocritically approached:
“Sister–in–law, it’s okay. I’ll introduce you to a good hairstylist. Just think of it as getting a new hairstyle.”
I bowed ninety degrees and apologized to her:
“Sister–in–law, I was wrong! My thoughts were dirty and I misunderstood you! You and Theodore are completely innocent. I apologize to you!”
Theodore Vale operated his phone a few times, his tone flat:
“I’ve transferred you a million. Go get your hair fixed tomorrow.”

I looked at the payment notification and silently gripped my phone: “Okay.”
Five years of relationship couldn’t earn me a word of concern from him.
But Irene’s casual remark could make him spend millions.
My compliance softened his expression, and he even began critiquing:
“Just get a shoulder–length bob. Don’t copy sister–in–law’s long hair – you don’t have that kind of temperament.”
Irene covered her mouth and laughed softly:
“Theodore, sister–in–law isn’t deliberately copying me. We just have similar taste, right?”
I stiffened all over.
I suddenly realized that to please him, I had unconsciously begun imitating Irene’s style of dress.
“Can I go now?” I asked quietly.
He looked at me with disgust: “Go change clothes and come with me to see Mom and Dad. You know what to say.”
I nodded silently and walked straight to the bedroom.
As I pushed open the door, my steps suddenly stopped.
All my clothes had been cut to shreds, and our wedding photos were trampled and thrown on the bed.
Irene followed behind me, her voice carrying deliberate guilt:
“Sorry, sister–in–law. My manic depression suddenly flared up earlier. When I came to my senses, it was like this…”
I interrupted with a cold laugh:
“Irene, you could have had an episode anywhere! Why did you choose my bedroom?”
Her eyes immediately reddened:
“Theodore told me to rest here. The other rooms hadn’t been cleaned.”
Theodore Vale couldn’t bear to see her suffer the slightest grievance and directly threw his black card at my feet:
“Enough to buy an entire mall’s worth of clothes.”
In the past five years, his birthday gifts to me never exceeded three digits.
He said the Vale family was very wealthy, but he hoped our relationship would be pure, unpolluted by money.

Chapter 4
Today’s financial generosity for Irene’s sake gave me my first real taste of entering a wealthy family.
I bent down to pick up the black card, smiling: “Thank you for the President’s generosity.”
Theodore Vale looked at me contemptuously:
“Clara Ellison, if I’d known money could buy you off, why would I bother sweet talking you
I gripped the card tightly, threw caution to the wind, and smiled brilliantly:
“You misjudged me. For money, I can do anything! I pestered you for two years–wasn’t it all for money?”
His Adam’s apple bobbed, his chest heaving violently: “Disgusting!”
Theodore Vale dragged Irene away, slamming the door.
Irene asked in confusion:
“Theodore, how did you end up with someone like Clara Ellison? Neither her family background nor her character
matches you.”
Theodore Vale was irritated:
“It’s all my father! He insists I marry her. Anyway, it’s all just a business marriage.”
I leaned against the door, tears falling uncontrollably.
I tried hard to wipe them away, but the more I wiped, the more they fell.
