Chapter 2
He was stunned, then pulled a self–mocking smile:
“Tive years together, and you’re being this hasty?”
My chest felt tight, and I wanted to open the window for air.
But he roughly pressed it shut and sneered:
“I accepted your pursuit back then because I valued your generosity. Now I see you’re just another jealous woman!”
“Think whatever you want. If we’re breaking up, then we’re breaking up. Don’t expect me to kneel and beg you! I, Theodore Vale, don’t lack women!”
Suddenly, his phone rang with Irene’s special ringtone.
I closed my eyes and leaned back weakly in the chair.
For the past two years, Irene often called late at night, crying and telling him she was scared.
She was afraid of the empty house, afraid that Theodore Vale wouldn’t care about her after he got married.
Theodore Vale would always rush over immediately to comfort her.
When I tried to stop him from going, he would scold me harshly:
“She’s my sister–in–law, we’re family! Clara Ellison, what filthy thoughts are you harboring? Don’t you find it
disgusting?”
He didn’t know that every time he went over, Irene would send me videos.
‘Sister–in–law, I’m proactively video calling you so you won’t misunderstand.”
And what was the result?
In the videos, she would be happily nestled in Theodore Vale’s arms while he gently hummed songs to lull her to deep.
Such tenderness had never been shown to me.
Even when I had a fever of 104°F, he would only tell me to drink more hot water.
He said my parents had spoiled me too much and that I should exercise more to strengthen my body.
But every time he went hiking outdoors, he would only take Irene.

Because Irene was professional, and only with her could he have the joy of exploration, unlike me who would only hold him back.
My heart contracted painfully, and I instinctively looked at him.
Answering the phone, his whole demeanor softened, a smile touching his lips: “Irene.”
But Irene sounded very dejected:
“I’ve thought about it for a long time. I’ll keep the child, but I absolutely won’t move into your house. And once the child is born, I’ll leave.”
Theodore Vale roared:
“Don’t you dare! Irene, try leaving and see what happens!”
