Chapter 148
Adrienne noticed something was wrong with Valerie and froze in fear, not daring to touch her, in a panic, she called out, “What’s wrong? Don’t scare s like this!”
Valerie’s body trembled slightly from the pain, her vision darkening in waves. She forced herself to say, “I’m fine…”
She tried to get tip, but the stabbing pain in her abdomen didn’t stop. Hunched over in a half squat, she couldn’t stand–she didn’t even have the
strength to try.
Her head spun, and everything before her eyes turned pitch black.
Adrienne quickly reached out to steady her and asked, “Where does it hurt? is it your stomach?”
Valerie heard her but was in so much pain she couldn’t even speak.
Just then, her phone buzzed in her pocket.
The caller ID showed it was ‘Landlord‘
Not many people called Valerie, but this number was
the
most frequent one. Adrienne had seen it pop up before but never know who it really was. She
always suspected it might be Valerie’s husband–or maybe a very close friend.
Glancing at the caller ID, Adrienne asked, “Valerie, your landlord’s calling again. Do you want to answer it?”
Valerie didn’t immediately understand why the landlord would be calling. After a pause, Adrienne asked, “Is your landlord actually your husband?”
Only then did Valerie realize–she had saved Aiden’s number under that name. She nodded.
Now that she had her answer, Adrienne picked up the call and said, “Hi there, I’m Valerie’s roommate.”
Aiden knew Valerie was living with another girl. He raised his brow slightly and asked, “Where is she?”
Adrienne glanced at Valerie, who couldn’t even straighten up, and said, “She’s here–God, she scared me half to death. We were out jogging, and out of nowhere, she said her stomach hurt. She was totally fine just a minute ago, but now her face is pale as a ghost, and her lips have no color at all…”
Before Adrienne could finish her sentence, a man’s voice cut her off, “Where are you?”
Valerie heard his voice and tried to speak, but the dizziness overwhelmed her again. After a moment, she managed to say, “It’s just stomach pain… it’ll
pass.”
But by then, Adrienne had already given him the address–and the call had ended.
Valerie clutched her stomach as Adrienne helped her over to a park bench. Adrienne was visibly shaken. “How did it hit you so suddenly? Are you feeling any better? I think we should go to the hospital. Have you ever felt this way before?”
Valerie leaned on the bench’s armrest and shook her head.
She thought, ‘No. This has never happened before.
Adrienne seemed to think of something and asked, “Could it be your period? Is it period cramps?”
“No,” Valerie replied after thinking about it. “It’s not time yet.”
Valerie’s period was always punctual. It happened every 35 days.
Doing the math, it had only been 28 days, There was still another week to go.

Adrienne boldly guessed, “Could you be… pregnant?”
Valerie’s heart raced.
Valerie’s heart instantly raced as she thought, ‘Pregnant?‘
She instinctively covered her lower belly and her breathing became erratic.
“No, no, don’t panic–I’m probably just overthinking. If you were really pregnant and your stomach hurt this badly… that wouldn’t be good… Adrienne trailed off, her voice getting quieter as she looked at Valerie’s pale face. “Let’s go to the hospital, okay?”
Valerie quickly shook her head in response, “There’s no way I’m pregnant.”
She always took the morning–after pill after doing it. The emergency contraception she secretly kept was always in her bag. Whenever Aiden wasn’t looking, she would take one. And every time he came inside her, she’d try to carefully get it out–just to make absolutely sure it couldn’t happen.
‘I’ve been this careful… there’s no way I could be pregnant… right? Valerie thought.
Her mind was a mess. Clutching her stomach, she stood up with great effort and said, “Let’s… go to the hospital.”
Adrienne hurried to support her, even glancing at Valerio
backside. But since Valerie was wearing black workout clothes, it was impossible to tell if
there was any blood.
Adrienne was panicking.
She thought, ‘No one’s stomach just suddenly starts hurting like this for no reason.
‘But if she is pregnant, and this happened while jogging… could it be… a miscarriage or something?‘
The thought made Adrienne even more frantic. She rushed off to hail a taxi.
Once in the car, Valerie couldn’t even sit upright anymore. She was barely conscious by the time they reached the hospital, while Adrienne was on the phone.
Valerie was rushed into the emergency room. Adrienne anxiously explained the situation to the doctor, and soon Valerie was taken in for tests.
Aiden arrived just as Valerie was receiving an IV drip.
Spotting him, Adrienne immediately called out, “Over here!”
Aiden hadn’t seen Valerie in several days, and now, yet again, he found himself rushing to the hospital for her. His brows furrowed deeply, clearly lost in thought.
Adrienne felt a bit intimidated by him. Despite his good looks, his entire presence felt serious–cold, even. So cold, it was almost scary.
Carefully, Adrienne explained, “It happened while we were jogging–she just collapsed. The doctor said it’s a hormonal imbalance, which caused all of this. Uh… for more details, you’ll have to ask the doctor. Valerie’s getting fluids now, and she’s doing much better. She’s asleep–you can go see her.”
‘Hormonal imbalance?
‘She’s been taking hormones?
‘What the hell did she take to mess up her body like this?‘ Aiden thought.

His expression darkened as he stepped inside. Valerie was lying on the bed, half asleep. Her brows were tightly knit, her forehead slick with sweat. Her delicate black hair clung to her pale skin, making her face look even more bloodless startling to see.
Aiden instinctively softened his steps as he walked in. He reached out to touch her forehead and thought, ‘So cold.‘
Valerie’s face was deathly pale, and her brows stayed furrowed. Feeling the warmth of his hand on her skin, she slowly opened her eyes.
Just then, the doctor came in and asked, “What’s your relationship to her?”
“Her husband,” Aiden said. “What’s wrong with her?”
The doctor looked a little surprised and asked, “You two are married? At such a young age?”
Aiden replied simply, “We are.”
“Not planning on having kids anytime soon?” the doctor asked.
Aiden frowned, unsure why he was being asked that.
The doctor glanced at his reaction and continued matter–of–factly, “It’s nothing serious–just a hormonal imbalance, irregular periods, and some uterine coldness. Do you two usually use contraception?”
Aiden paused for a moment.
“It’s best to avoid emergency contraceptives too often,” the doctor added as he replaced Valerie’s IV bag. “If you really care about her, wear protection.. She’s still young–morning–after pills like that are really hard on the body. Today’s situation wasn’t the worst it could’ve been, but if she keeps taking those pills, she might have real trouble conceiving later on. And by the time you actually want a baby… it might be too late.”
