My body shook and I turned my head reflexively.
It was Ken.
His eyes were bloodshot,his face twisted in barely–contained rage as he marched toward me.His gaze swept past Charles,instantly turning to ice and without a word,he stormed over and grabbed my wrist so tightly that I winced.
“Emily,haven’t you caused enough trouble?You’ve already got a boyfriend!“he roared.“Don’t yo know how to keep your distance from other men?”
I instinctively tried to pull away, but Ken refused to let go and yanked me forcefully into his arms,then interrogated me, “Did you get engaged just to spite me?How far do you want to go to humiliate me before you’re happy?”
The pain made me suck in a sharp breath.I shouted angrily,” Ken, let go of me!Don’t make a scene
nere!”

Charles’s face turned cold and without saying a word, he stepped forward and landed a solid bunch on Ken’s jaw,sending him stumbling back a few steps.“She told you to let go. Didn’t you hear her?”
Ken closed his mouth with his hand as blood seeped from the corner of his lips,but he still glared at me willfully. “This is between me and her. What the hell does it have to do with you? Is the young master of the Watson Family this desperate to be a homewrecker?”
was dumbfounded.I never imagined he would do something so dreadful like that.
‘A homewrecker?“I snorted coldly. “Did you really dare to say something like that? Ken,what are we exactly? Didn’t you always say I was just your employee?”
Ken’s face stiffened and snarled with exasperated anger, “Can you forget our seven years of relationship just like that, Emily?I had told you I was forced to keep it private for seven years,hadn’t I?Haven’t you always understood that?”
shook his hand off without hesitation.I just felt so exhausted. Even now, he took my patience for granted.
My parents had finally snapped out of their daze and were staring at the scene in confusion.My dad frowned.“Sweetheart,who is this man?What seven years?”
I took a deep breath and turned slowly toward them while every eye in the room was on me.“Dad,Mom,there’s something I’ve never told you.”
‘I was with Ken for seven years, ever since my freshman year in college. He made me hide our relationship.He said his career hadn’t stabilized yet,that his company was just starting and office romances were forbidden and he told me to wait.I was stupid enough to believe him.” “So,I kept the relationship hidden.I even lied and missed countless opportunities to make it public. And yet,what did I get in return?I didn’t even get a single promise but was publicly humiliated.”
“Half a month ago,his fiancée threw coffee on me in front of everyone. And what did he do?He slapped me and told me to get lost. That’s when I finally gave up.”

Gasps rippled through the crowd. My mom’s face turned pale with fury.Her eyes bulged with fiery anger and she slapped him so hard that the sound echoed in the hall.
“You bastard!My daughter has class,looks and a good family. It was you who was the one climbing up!She gave you seven years of her life and this is how you repay her by humiliating
her?”
The slap spun Ken’s head to the side and left a red handmark there,but he just stared at me with
disbelief.
“Give up?What do you mean you give up?You…are you really engaged to him? Emily,didn’t you say you’d only ever love me in this life?”
I gave him a bitter smile.“Since when did I say I would keep loving someone who doesn’t love me back?”
“You said you would wait for my career to stabilize, didn’t you?” he asked desperately.“You saic you’d stick by me!”
“I did,”I looked him in the eye. “However, I never said I’d tolerate being slapped,insulted anc trampled on by you.”
Ken’s voice cracked,eyes reddening,my determination clearly terrified him.Panic took over as he began rambling,“I’ll marry you,Emily. We’ll get married right now, okay? Just don’t marry someone else….”
for Charles finally spoke in his deep voice,“So you think she should wait seven years with just one sentence from you,she should cancel the wedding and go back to being your shadow?”
