Lizzie signaled Glenna to keep quiet and keep talking into the microphone.
“That’s good, I was worried you wouldn’t make it in time!”
“Oh, Lizzie.” Katherine caught her breath and remembered the important matter, “when is your wedding day? I need to schedule my time.”
Lizzie’s mind was racing, there might be someone listening in on the other end of the phone at the Village Committee. She couldn’t tell the truth, let alone spill the beans.
“On October 31st.”
She made up a close date on the spot, just to put a little pressure on them and hurry Katherine back.
“Just ten days later? So soon?” Katherine was surprised at first.
He immediately laughed, “Looks like Mr. Howland couldn’t wait!”
Lizzie didn’t show any flaws, she said shyly, “What are you talking about!”
“Alright. I gotta go check the tickets real quick, it’s so urgent, tickets. might not be easy to get.” Katherine joked as she happily agreed.
Lizzie continued to urge in a shy tone, “Katherine, you have to come back. I’m waiting for you to give me away. If you don’t come, I wo get married.”

Katherine on the phone was amused. “Okay okay okay, I’ll definitely come! If I ruin your wedding, Mr. Howland will hate me, he might even come over with a gun to settle the score!”
She joked with a smile.
Lizzie answered, chatted and laughed with her for a bit, then hung up.
Glenna’s tense nerves suddenly relaxed. Even though she didn’t sleep well all night and felt exhausted, her spirits were high!
Katherine was about to come back, and Glenna felt so relaxed with work.
The two hadn’t left the post office yet when a neighbor who had just finished sending a telegram nearby walked over, “Hey, Glenna, I heard Cecilia say that Lizzie and Mr. Howland’s wedding date was supposed to be February 31st next year, right? But just now I heard that they’re getting married on October 31st? Which day is it actually?”
Glenna blinked her sore, red eyes, all worries from last night gone, feeling completely relieved and happy.
Today when she heard someone mention the date “February 31st” again, she almost couldn’t help it and burst out laughing.
Thinking back now, Lizzie’s way of tricking people was pretty funny.
She hadn’t figured out how to say it yet, and she was afraid that if she opened her mouth, she would burst out laughing.
Lizzie still had a serious look on her face as she continued to deceive, “Sylvia, you must have misheard just now, I did say February.”
She sounded confident, leaving no room for doubt.
Sylvia’s face was full of confusion, “Did I hear wrong?”
Glenna was afraid of being caught by her again, so she quickly pushed Lizzie’s wheelchair.
“Oh, you must have misheard. We have something else to do, so we’re leaving now.”
She sped up and quickly left with Lizzic.
Sylvia watched their hurried figures, her brows furrowing even tighter. muttering something under her breath.
Turned the corner, got to a place with no one around, made sure Sylvia didn’t follow, then they stopped.
The tense atmosphere completely dissipated, Glenna couldn’t help it anymore, covering her mouth, shoulders shaking, and burst out laughing.
Lizzie was also amused by this dramatic scene, with a smile on her face.
After a good laugh, Glenna wiped away the tears that came out of her eyes and had a completely relaxed expression.
I’m glad Katherine could come back, that’s all that matters.
The relaxed atmosphere suddenly froze in the next second.
Glenna’s smile slowly faded away, replaced by a deep sense of worry.
“Lizzie, Katherine’s issue is resolved, but you… you’ve already broken up, how can you still get married?”
Glenna was getting more and more anxious.
“What would others think of you if you didn’t get married by then?”

In a girl’s home, reputation is so important!
She was so busy worrying about Katherine yesterday that she forgot about it for a moment.
Lizzie casually waved her hand, “Glenna, don’t worry Reputation
doesn’t matter to me, a little gossip won’t hurt.”

Lizzie patted her back and comforted her, “Once I get back to work at Equinox Research Laboratory, I won’t be here anymore. Maybe I’ll be transferred to another city’s Equinox Research Laboratory. By then, who here will know if I got married or who I got married to?”
Glenna opened her mouth and said, “Are you leaving?”
“I used to come to this Equinox Research Institute just to stay with Aedan, but later I stayed because of you and Theron. Glenna, actually I would rather go to the Equinox Research Laboratory in Hurlton.”
