Elsie’s heart was torn between conflicting emotions, while part of her ached with sadness, another part secretly hoped Jessica would respond to Leon, if
only to bring him happiness.
Elsie said, “Leon hasn’t had an easy time these years. He may look so glorious now that he’s back, but you have no idea how much hardship and pain he
endured in the Northern Borderlands.
“There were several times he barely escaped death. The worst left him bedridden for months.”
Elsie sighed softly and lowered her gaze. She added, “Malik is the same age as Leon. He also led troops into battle in his youth. But now… They seem to be on such bad terms…”
“Wouldn’t you say they’re sworn brothers who’ve been through life and death together?” Jessica said. “Such a bond is rare, even among princes and
nobles.”
