Lizzie was totally lit up by that sentence.
“When everyone was pointing at my nose and calling me a shameless thief, why didn’t you think those words were
harsh?”
“Why didn’t you tell them to watch their language?”
“Oh, by the way.
She suddenly realized, but her tone became even colder.

“Because Prof. Howland had the ‘courage‘ to shoulder this stigma with me ‘together‘. So, I should be grateful, those words that others scold me with, because you and I ‘carried it together‘, if I get upset, it would be unreasonable!”
Lizzie felt a surge of endless irony and bitterness in her chest.
In the previous life, he was seen as a noble and honorable man, a gentleman with integrity and loyalty, by outsiders.
He protected Johanna to honor his late brother Efren. And he married her, despite her tainted reputation, to fulfill his brother Aedan’s dying wish.
He was so kind–hearted!
He rose to fame step by step.
But she was left alone struggling in the mud, carrying all the burden!
The more Lizzie thought about it, the more her hatred boiled over! Anger consumed her rationality!
She suddenly raised her hand again, another slap was about to come.
This time, Theron was prepared.
He quickly reached out and firmly grabbed Lizzie’s wrist.
Her wrist was delicate, held tightly by his strong hand, unable to move.
“Lizzie,” Theron’s voice lowered, “my patience has its limits too.”
Lizzie’s wrist was pinched by him and it hurt.
But she stubbornly straightened her back, meeting his gaze without showing any weakness.
The next second, she raised the crutch in her free hand and slammed it down hard on Theron’s sturdy calf!
Dull thudding sounds could be heard.

Theron grunted in surprise when she didn’t expect her to hit him with the cane that supported her, and he got hit.

“Screw you and your accusations! Those labels were never mine to begin with. You try to smear me and expect me to be grateful to you! Disgusting!”
Lizzie’s leg still hadn’t fully recovered. She put all her strength into swinging her crutch and, after shouting those words, her body lost control of its balance. She collapsed uncontrollably and fell straight towards the ground beside
her.
Theron’s calf was hit hard, causing him intense pain and making his body jerk to one side.
Just as he caught sight of Lizzie’s staggering figure, almost instinctively, he gritted his teeth against the intense pain in his legs and reached out to help.
He wanted to shield her with his body to prevent her from getting hurt.
However, just as his hand was halfway extended, Lizzie’s eyes flashed with a determined cold light. She saw his hand reaching out, but it was like touching something disgusting and dirty, so she pushed it away without hesitation.
She would rather fall to the ground than accept even a touch from him!
This push completely messed up the already unbalanced posture of the two.
Lizzie lost her last support and fell backwards.
She pushed him away without any regrets, and was prepared to accept the fall.
She wouldn’t take his hand even if she fell down and broke her leg again!
Theron was pushed hard by her, and with the pain in his leg, he staggered back in the other direction for several steps before finally regaining his balance.
He looked at Lizzie in disbelief.
An unprecedented panic and confusion, like icy cold water, instantly engulfed his heart.
He seemed to realize it only at this moment.
Lizzie really didn’t want him anymore.
Not sulking, not throwing a tantrum.
It’s a complete, decisive, no room for compromise cut.
Why?
His mind was a mess.
Just because he made her give up a job?
Just because he thought Johanna needed that position more?

Can their years of relationship, her deep dependence and admiration for him, be easily erased just because of this little thing?
He didn’t understand.
Just as Lizzie was about to fall, Fredrick, who had been standing next to her, quickly stepped forward and firmly caught her arm.
“Ms. Trevino, watch out!” Frederick gently but firmly supported Lizzie, preventing her from falling to the ground.
Fredrick helped Lizzie stand steady.
Lizzie was in so much pain that she was gasping for air. The previous hit had aggravated her leg injury, and the pierc- ing pain made her break out in a cold sweat on her forehead.
She gritted her teeth, endured the pain, and couldn’t even be bothered to give Theron a glance.
Her voice trembled with pain, but coldly expelled him, saying, “Get out.”
Clear and fluent.
Theron’s heart was pierced like a knife by this one word.

He looked at Lizzie’s furrowed brows due to pain, at the undisguised disgust and alienation in her eyes, and felt like a piece of his heart was being hollowed out.
