That day, after saying those words, Jessica turned and left.
After all, Waldo didn’t truly have any pressing matters. As the deputy commander of the Royal Guard, Jessica had no reason to stay when there was nothing urgent.
After another seven days, Waldo’s condition improved somewhat, his spirits had finally lifted a little, most of his wounds had healed, and he was physically capable of going out.

Adele repeatedly summoned Waldo to the palace, but he persistently ignored every summons.

“Did you send assassins after Jessica?” Waldo’s gaze was ice–cold as he looked at Adele, his eyes utterly devoid of warmth.
Adele’s heart clenched. She glared at him, displeasure evident in her voice. “Is this how you treat your own mother?”
Waldo remained silent.
He sat in his wheelchair, a cane resting against its side.
Though one leg was crippled, it wasn’t so bad that he couldn’t stand, he could still walk steadily with a cane.
But back then, he was so full of pride and ambition.
Now, he had become a broken shell of his former self. It wasn’t just his leg that was wounded, it was his reputation, his glory, and, most painfully, his dignity that had all been shattered.
Now, even Jessica had turned her back on him. Crippled as he was, there was no way his father would ever consider him for the throne.
Waldo knew in his heart, his life held no more hope.
Waldo demanded, “Tell me, did you really send assassins after Jessica?”
“Waldo…”
“Answer me! Did you do it?” Waldo suddenly growled through clenched teeth.
“She brought it on herself! She betrayed you, scheming with those Leon House rats and making you miss out on golden opportunities again and again! Even the Battle of Vrahmont Mount, she set you up on purpose just to ruin your reputation!”
Seeing her son in such a state, no one was more heartbroken than Adele.
She thought, ‘A monarch may die, may be wounded, but must never be crippled! How could a cripple ever rule as king?‘
Her son’s future had grown utterly bleak, and with it, she could see no future for herself either.
“She wasn’t plotting against me, she just refused to be bullied! Mother, why do you still want to harm her, even now?”
“You think I wanted to harm her? The one who truly hurt her… was you!” After days of bottling up her emotions, Adele finally lost it.
All the grievances she had suppressed suddenly surged forth. The poise and dignity she had struggled to maintain completely shattered.
She said, “I used to rule this harem with an iron fist! That wretched bitch of a Queen, after her son died, she was nothing! She had to bow to me, keeping her head down like a whipped dog!
