Pamela’s cries for help drew the attention of people nearby.
James immediately rushed into the sea, ignoring the waves, and pulled her to safety.
On the shore, his eyes were red–rimmed, filled with tension.
“Pamela!”
Pamela opened her eyes slowly, her face pale, and looked at him.
“James, Katie told me she’s your girlfriend and everything you did was to deceive me. Is that true?”
“Of course not,” James froze, quickly denying it.
Pamela glanced triumphantly at Katie in the distance, then choked out, “After our wedding, let’s go back home and get our marriage certificate right away, okay? I want to be your legal wife so no one can come between us.”
Hearing this, the people around them all turned to look at James.
Katie watched as James kissed the back of Pamela’s hand, then replied without hesitation, solemnly.
“All right, we’ll get the marriage certificate as soon as we return home.”
Pamela broke into an instant smile, hugging him tightly.

Katie didn’t know how she managed to return to the hotel.
Half an hour later, James also came back.
When he pushed open the door, he saw Katie sitting on the edge of the bed, looking as if she had lost her soul.
It was the first time James had seen Katie so vulnerable, and his heart involuntarily tightened with a twinge of guilt.
“Katie, I’ll stay here with you tonight and won’t go to Pamela.”
Katie snapped back to reality. Seeing that his clothes were still wet, she was about to ask if he wanted to change when she heard him add, “But you shouldn’t have told Pamela the truth.”
“Told her the truth?”
Katie looked straight at him. “I didn’t say anything.”

Chapter 6
“Are you still lying?” James blurted out the words.
“Lying?”
Katie stared at him in disbelief.
Those who hurt you will indeed never stop at just one injury.
“Perhaps feeling his words had been too harsh, James added,
“Katie, just wait five more days. After five days, everything will be over.”
“Wait…”

Katie wouldn’t wait any longer. In five days, they would go their separate ways, and she would never act alongside James again.
Seeing her silence, James took out an elegant gift box from behind his back.
“A gift for you. Do you like it?”
It was the first time he had ever given Katie a gift.
She suddenly wondered what he had chosen for her.
Opening the box, she found a pair of size 37 high–heeled shoes.
At that moment, Katie suddenly laughed.
“James, I wear size 36 shoes.”

She added. “Love grows profound through differences. These past days, I’ve seen your history with your ex–girlfriend -you sent her a different bouquet of flowers every day, size 37 high heels, lipsticks from various brands, and custom- made necklaces and bracelets…”
Katie pointed to her empty wrists and neck, enunciating each word clearly. “Actually everyone wants to be favored and preferred. I’m no exception.”
James fell silent.
For the first time, he realized that after three years together, he hardly knew Katie at all.
She continued, “James, you must be tired today. Go rest.”
James stood up. “I’ll have someone buy a new pair right away. Wait for me.”
After he left, Katie closed the door.
That night, James did not return.
Katie didn’t wait for him and fell asleep alone.

The next day, as she went to the restaurant for breakfast, she overheard James chatting in Spanish with several of Pamela’s friends.
“Do you think James likes his current girlfriend more, or does he love Pamela more?”
“Obviously Pamela. To be honest, James has known for a long time that Pamela regained her memory. He’s just using her ‘amnesia‘ as an excuse to do all the things he’s always wanted to do with her.”
