Chapter 20
June’s POV
I stared blankly at the pregnancy test in my shaking hands.
It was positive.
My breath caught in my throat, and my heart pounded in my chest. It was getting hard to breathe. How was this possible?
My eyes widened slightly as my mind flashed back to that night.
The night that we were celebrating. Killian and I got so drunk, and we ended up sleeping together.
That night that we never spoke about again. We had made a mistake that night, and now…I was
pregnant.
I touched my stomach, with my shaking fingers. There was a life inside me. Killian’s child.
My mind raced with questions. Should I tell him? Could I?
Killian had saved me, protected me, cared for me, but we weren’t real. Our engagement was for revenge, and not for love. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
If I told him, what would he do? Would he feel like I had trapped him? Would he push me away?
I released a shaky breath as I stared at myself in the mirror.
I had so many decisions to make right now. Do I keep the child? Do I tell Killian about the child?
However, the thought of aborting my child sent a shudder down my spine. I couldn’t do it. I lost Ethan, and my unborn child. I had to give this child a chance. No matter who the father was, I was still the mother.
After sitting in the bathroom for a long time, I finally made my decision.
I was going to tell Killian about the pregnancy. If he wanted to take responsibility, I was fine with it, but I would make it clear to him that he didn’t have to marry me, and we could live separately.
After I ate dinner, I glanced at the clock with a small frown. Killian was late today, and that was
unlike him.
After waiting for several more minutes, I decided to call him to make sure he was fine. However, his phone kept ringing, but he didn’t pick up. I became worried. Killian had never missed my call. What if something had happened to him? I thought to myself.
Just as I started to panic, and was about to raise alarm, the front door opened.
Relief flooded through me for a split second, and I rushed to the door with a relieved smile on my face. However, the smile quickly faded when I saw him.
Killian stepped inside, but he wasn’t alone. A woman was clinging to him. Her arm was on his shoulder as though he was supporting her weight. His grip on her was almost… protective.
I froze.
They were close. Too close. Their heads were tilted toward each other as they murmured softly to each other. They hadn’t even noticed me standing there.
My stomach twisted with an unknown emotion.

Killian had never brought a woman home before. Not while we were engaged. Not like this,
I felt cold. I tightened my grip on the pregnancy test that was hidden behind me.
Who was she? Why was she here? And why did it hurt so much to see them like that?
I swallowed hard, as I forced myself to speak. “Killian?” I called quietly.
Killian’s head snapped up at the sound of my voice.
For a moment, his eyes brightened as he saw me. Or had I imagined it?
“June,” he said with a soft smile on his face.
The woman beside him shifted slightly, and it was then that he remembered that she was there. He glanced at her with a worried expression on his face, before he turned his attention back to
- me.
“This is Lila,” he said softly to me. “She’s a childhood friend of mine.”
Lila lifted her head, giving me a small, weak smile. I could see exhaustion on her face. She looked pale, and there were dark circles around her eyes.
‘She’s really sick,” Killian continued, maintaining eye contact with me. “She came to Italy for treatment, but she doesn’t have a place to stay. I told her she could stay here.”
I felt my heart clench in my chest.
Stay here?
I looked between them, at the way he held her so carefully, and at the way she leaned into him
like he was her saviour.
Why did it make my stomach twist?
tightened my fingers around the pregnancy test behind me. I felt so ridiculous. I had spent the entire evening gathering the courage to tell him, only for this to happen.
‘I’m sorry for intruding,” Lila said softly with a tired look in her eyes. “Killian insisted. I… I didn’t want to be a burden.”
forced a smile. “It’s fine,” I said automatically, even though I wasn’t sure if it was. But it wasn‘ my house.
Killian studied me for a moment, before he nodded.
‘I’ll get her settled in,” he said finally.
nodded, watching as he led her toward one of the guest rooms.
When they disappeared down the hall I released a deep breath, and I glanced at the pregnancy
est.
Maybe now wasn’t the right time to tell him.
‘Amore,” Killian’s voice called from behind me
flinched at the sound of his voice. My fingers tightened around the pregnancy test, and I quickly hid it behind me. I turned around to face him, keeping my eyes down to avoid his gaze.
‘I thought you were taking Lila to her room,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
Killian shook his head. “No, she’ll be fine. I left her with one of the maids. She’ll direct her.” He took a step closer to me, and my heart raced.

“I’m sorry, June.” He said softly.
I furrowed my eyebrows, glancing at him briefly, before I averted my gaze from his.
“For what?” I asked.
He sighed. “I should have asked you first before bringing her here,” he said softly. “I know it’s
sudden.”
I shook my head, faking a smile. “It’s fine,” I murmured. “Besides, it’s your house. You can dc whatever you want.”
Killian inhaled sharply, and clenched his jaw. “Our house, June. It’s our house.”
I blinked, glancing back at him.
Killian ran a hand through his hair, looking frustrated. “I’ll find her another place to stay,” he muttered, turning away. “I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable.”
My heart clenched at his words.
“No, Killian-”
“It’s done,” he cut me off. “I’ll handle it.”
I stared at him in shock as he walked off. He was really going to send her elsewhere–because of
- me.
My heart warmed, and a small smile crossed my lips as I glanced at the pregnancy test again.
Maybe now wasn’t the right time to tell him. But I was going to tell him.
