“Jasmine? Where’s my daughter? My baby?” Tessa burst into the room, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
As she rushed forward, her steps grew unsteady, nearly causing her to collapse. Valerie reacted instantly, darting forward to steady her with a firm grip. “Watch your step,” she warned.
The middle–aged woman scrambled up, still sobbing. But when her eyes focused on Valerie, she froze mid–motion. “It’s you-”
Suddenly, her face twisted with rage. Without warning, she swung her arm and slapped Valerie hard across the face. The slap landed with a resounding
sound.
Valerie was blindsided. Her eyes widened slightly, caught completely off guard by this sudden turn of events.
The other students who had come along gasped in shock. Startled, Adrienne rushed forward and shouted, “What the hell are you doing?”

The middle–aged woman’s face contorted with rage. She raised her head and swung her arm again, ready to deliver another slap
But Valerie was ready this time. She raised her hand to block the blow, then turned to her with an icy, piercing glare that made the middle–aged woman pause, a sudden chill running down her spine.
‘W–What’s going on? Why does she, just a college girl, have such a terrifying look in her eyes?‘ she wondered.
The officer quickly stepped in, pulled her back, and snapped, “What do you think you’re doing? We’re right here.”
The middle–aged woman struggled in hysterical sobs, screaming, “It’s her. She drove my daughter to suicide. My God, what kind of police are you? The murderer is right here. Are you blind? Arrest her now.”
Elbert rushed over in a hurry and shouted angrily, “Are you insane? If Valerie hadn’t reacted quickly and saved your daughter, she’d be dead by now. And now you’re hitting her. Where’s your sense of justice?”
“Bullshit.” Jasmine’s mother, Tessa Duncan, yelled in rage. “This shameless bitch is always out there throwing herself at every man she sees. It’s bad enough that she goes after men, but she even tried to seduce my daughter’s boyfriend.
“That’s why he wanted to break up with my baby girl. If it weren’t for her, why would my daughter ever want to kill herself?”
Elbert grew even angrier. “Look. These are all fabricated lies your daughter made up, complete nonsense. Her lies were exposed on the spot, and now the whole school knows she’s been lying. Hasn’t she told you?”
Tessa, taken aback by Elbert’s furious expression, stammered in disbelief, “That’s impossible. Don’t you dare lie to me. Jasmine is the sweetest, most obedient girl. She’s an absolute angel at home. How could she possibly be the way you say?”
Tessa, wiping away her tears, wailed, “My daughter is in there fighting for her life, and you still have the nerve to spread these vile lies.
“How could someone be so cruel? My God, how much more damage do you want to do to my girl before you’ll finally leave her alone?”
Tessa wailed hysterically, her sobs echoing through the hospital corridor.
Elbert was absolutely livid and about to fire back when Valerie quickly stopped her.
The counselor quickly stepped between them and said, “Mrs. Duncan, I understand you’re distressed with your daughter in there. That’s completely
normal.
“But Jasmine is still undergoing emergency treatment, and only she knows exactly what happened. Let’s stay quiet so we don’t disrupt the surgery.”
Tessa stared blankly, silent tears rolling down her cheeks.
Tessa’s slap had landed with brutal force. Now, a vivid, five–fingered handprint was swelling conspicuously on Valerie’s delicate cheek, a stark contrast that marred her beautiful features,
Adrienne winced in sympathy, “Oh my God, look at your face. If your husband saw you like this, he’d be devastated.”
Tessa sobbed and cursed, “I knew you were nothing but a slut. Shameless. Disgusting–always bragging about your husband at such a young age.”
Elbert was absolutely furious. He roared, “Shut your filthy mouth before I rip it off myself. For your information, Valerie is actually married. Watch your filthy mouth.
“Just as expected–the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. No wonder Jasmine is always stirring up trouble and distorting the truth. Clearly, it runs in the family.”
Elbert scoffed with utter disdain, “Let me be blunt. If your daughter dies right now, it’s entirely her own doing. She’s got no one else to blame.”
Tessa screamed, “Liar, That’s all lies. You must have been seduced by her.”
“Enough. Quiet down,” the officer ordered, striding over, grabbing her firmly by the arm, and forcing her down into the chair.
