Thanks to Peach’s oversharing habit.
I had front–row seats to their entire three–day itinerary.
They’d ridden roller coasters, hit up hot springs, went bungee jumping.
All stuff I’d never done with Dylan.
He loved thrills, loved that adrenaline rush.
But I couldn’t handle any of it.
He’d begged me to go bungee jumping with him, the tandem kind.
Said it would be romantic.
Even wanted wedding photos like that.
But when I got up on that platform, I just couldn’t take that step.
Dylan said it was fine.
But I knew he was disappointed.
Thinking about it now, Dylan and I were mismatched in so many ways.
When we were blinded by love, we both said love conquers all.
Turned out someone was lying.
Dylan came out wearing sunglasses, expression blank.
Next to him, Peach had her arm linked through his, chattering away nonstop.
She was practically bouncing, face bright with a brilliant smile, sweet and adorable.
“Next time let’s go back, okay? For your birthday – it’ll be our first one since we got together…”

“Dylan!”
I raised my hand and called out loudly.
Peach probably didn’t hear, kept talking.
But Dylan stopped dead in his tracks.
He shoved Peach away and spun around to look at me, all flustered.
For a second there I thought I was some kind of monster.
Facing me, Peach was clearly panicked. She stood there timidly, wanting to get closer to Dylan but
not daring to.
Pretty pitiful, actually.
Dylan pulled himself together quickly.
He told Peach: “You go ahead.”
Peach’s head snapped up to look at Dylan, lips turning down, eyes filling with tears.
She didn’t want to leave.
So I played the nice guy: “Let’s all go together. Hard to get a ride here.”
Dylan frowned hard, serious as he told Peach: “What are you waiting for? Go!”
Peach stumbled back two steps, scared.
My face went cold too.
“I said, together!”
Peach was something else though.
Most people would’ve run for the hills in that situation.
But she actually followed us.
I walked in front, Dylan behind me, her trailing after Dylan.

Dylan opened the passenger door, about to get in.
But I stopped him.
“There’s stuff there. Get in back. Can’t exactly make the girl sit alone.”
Dylan looked at me, face blank, eyes churning with emotion.
He snorted and slammed the door shut, got in the back seat.
The atmosphere in the car was suffocating.
I broke the silence.
“Miss Peach, Dylan and I need to talk. You want to come with us, or should I drop you at school first?”
Suddenly being called out, Peach looked lost.
“I… I… I…”
Dylan suddenly snapped: “What the hell are you trying to do?”
Through the rearview mirror, I glanced at Dylan.
His expression was beyond irritated. He was pissed, fighting to keep his anger in check.
But I felt a rush of satisfaction.
So I let my smile grow wider.
“What’s your major, Miss Peach?”
“German!”
I was surprised. “Same as mine? I have a classmate who teaches at your school.”
Then I mentioned a name, asked her: “Know her?”
Peach’s face changed, voice weak: “Yes, she’s my advisor.”
I laughed out loud. “What a coincidence.”

Hearing that, I ended up dropping Peach off at school.
When she got out, she hurried away without looking back.
I asked Dylan: “Where’s that place you rented around here? Let’s go up and chat?”
Dylan kept staring at me,
Through gritted teeth, word by word: “What the hell are you trying to do?”
I wiped the expression off my face.
“That whole ride was to mess with you! Now, let’s talk about our divorce!”
